hey guys, just got my new parts today and testing !

here is a pic of the setup:

q9550 (C1)

Noctua with 2 sharkoon 2000rpm 120mm

2x2gb dominator 8500+

Asus p5q delux

EVGA GTX 280

I have my q9550 at 3.9 right now, seams to be perfectly stable, havent tried pushing it further yet. Currently under load all cores sit at around 57-60 and idle around 37-41. Ambient temp is around 25c.

Do these results / settings seam safe / ok ?

If that 1.3xxV that cpu-z is reporting is correct you'll be fine. And looks like you got a pretty nice chip there :).

Very nice CPU indeed, I would push it a bit harder if I was you :)

Just remember, you're safe up until 1.38v (which is the recommended safe zone by Intel) so keep pushing if you want! I reckon you can hit 4GHz stable with ease.

With that Vcore you could hit 4 easy and maybe further.

Have u upped any MB V's or left them all auto?

I'm looking forward to getting my Q9550 up to 4 :)

ED

You might not make 4GHz to be honest, most only make 3.8 safely. He has a very nice CPU with a low VID so he can clock high, hope that mine is the same story when I get mine! :)

Hey guys, just finished my overnight prime95 torture test and its 10 hours + stable! :D

heres the screens:

Going to try for 4ghz now :D

You think I should drop to 8x multiplier now for this ?

yea its 8.5 locked, i just put it up to 475 which is 4037mhz and increased the cpu voltage to 1.4 and its stable so far :D

been running prime maximum heat test for an hour now and my cores are sitting at max 67c 100% load

is this good ? :D

all i have done so far is set the following:

fsb 475

vcore 1.4

loadline calibration enabled

vtt 1.4

vdimm 2.2

cpu pll 1.4

northbridge 1.4

will post screenies when i get 12+ hours prime stable :)

Very nice, though I would let it run for about 30 mins and if it is fine.. lower the volts to say 1.375.

1.4v is above the max safe limit recommended by Intel though I can't see any problems.

Have fun :) I wish that I had that Q9550.. I really want a Quad but going to have to wait until Xmas or my birthday :(

Very nice, I hope that the CPU lasts you a long time! I hope that mine OCs nicely like that when I eventually get one.. I am going to have to put it under water though I don't want to be with noisey fans any more :D

I'm glad you lowered the voltage to below 1.4v and have it stable, that's a golden chip you got there. Have you considered any short suicide runs?

I'd probably stop at about 1.45v, anything higher might be too much for air. To be honest, i'd be happy with 4ghz on air anyway but my Q6600 is crap :(

lol i would if i was under water but i think 4ghz is realllly good for me right now being stable and that :)

LOL yeahhh I'm jealous! :P

Nahh not really, I would love to see what it tops out at, I have topped mine out at 438FSB and 1.5875v, it won't boot if I go to 440FSB+ or 1.6v so .. I think I have found the max for mine, and it does help that it's lapped too! It keeps the temps down a lot, look up my thread and you will see ;)

What are you going to be doing with your old Q6600 buddy? Just wondering :)

Hey guys,

I had to up the vcore very slightly (to 1.382) as I was getting a error on core 2 after about 30 mins of heat thrashing. btw it drops to 1.368 when idle as you can see on the pic below.

Ran the new settings for 5 hours straight and no errors so far :D

idle temps were 38 36 36 34 and max temps were 67 66 65 62 as you can see from real temp :)

Now that I have a stable overclock should I tighten my mem timings? Im running at standard 5-5-5-15 right now with 1:1 fsb/mem ratio.

Wow way to go. :worship:

I have a Q9550 under water on a Gigabyte P35 DQ6 board with 2x2gb OCZ flex also under water. I must be missing something (besides experience) as I cant seem to get the clock right at all.

Having read your results I am inspired to try again now. Any help or known funnies with this board which might hinder me please let me know.
