hi all

ive been searching through alot of different boards to find one i really like the look of... abit picky i know but if im gonna do it i wanna do it rite :)

the board ive found is the ASRock Fatal1ty z77 performance board.
its currently on amazon for £122.96 which i dont think is a bad price.

i just wanna know if the board is any good.
the only info ive really found is for the professional model :(

the board ive found is the ASRock Fatal1ty z77 performance board.

its a decent board, with 8+4 power phase, broadcom LAN, 6x SATA, 2x 4-pin fan
headers, 3x 3-pin fan headers, special 2.0 mouse port, no SLI and a bit over-priced
@ £123 should be £90 for the performance edition.
the professional is 16+8 power phase, dual broadcom LAN (teaming), 10x SATA
3x 4-pin fan headers, 4x 3-pin fan headers, IDE/FDD headers, supports
SLI/Xfire/Quad and should be about £130.

ASRock is been an improving motherboard mannie and more market share is popping
up for their color schemes and especially the black boards.
still a lot of leary customers and reading reviews they are very well to do. but
customer reviews they are still getting their hat handed to them. i use a P67
board and it was a BIOS nightmare, but once sorted, well priced average feature
applications. dunna know about the 555 faster than XXX comparo on the new
Z boards though. if it is a red and black.. ASUS is king for that scheme. maybe
the ASRock performance could answer the better price point without a robust
(sorry JJ) features package. but the professional is close on the formula and
but not the extreme.

technically it would be better to get an MSI-GDXX for a similar price but if you're going for a red and black themed look (without breaking the bank) then this is a really good board for that. I think the features are decent although lacking in PCIe expansion imo but if you don't plan to go SLI then this is fine for you. I would only recommend it over MSI if you were following a specific colour scheme. If you're not purchasing a GPU etc to match your colour scheme I wouldn't bother.

im getting the sapphire 7950 so sli not a concern. im also going with cm storm stryker and i really want to go with a red theme which is why this board jumped out at me.
can anyone recommend a good red themed board that wont break the bank?
i appreciate all your advice and suggestions guys :)

ASrock and Asus Maximus really - that's about it.If you dont have plans to SLI/Crossfire - you could drop to a mATX build and get the Maximus V Gene

i do plan on crossfire 7950 in the future when money allows.
which is better out of the two? ASrock or Asus?

Asus all the bells, ASrock good boards for the price which makes is very popular, if I remember right and I could be wrong but I believe Asus own ASrock so its a cheaper sister company, I am sure I read that some where.

Which 7950 are you getting?

The Asus Maximus V Formula would be the best. Depends on budget though. I was gunna go for a black and red theme myself - but I couldnt really justify the cost of basically £100 over the top of the range MSI board, just because of the colour scheme.

I personally don't like the ASrock line of Z77 boards - especially the red ones

They were like 10 years ago - that's how asrock started.

They're completely independent from ASUS now.

But that makes me want to go with asus more - if Asus made the company Asrock because they didnt want to worsen their own rep by making cheaper products...

oh right i didnt know that AzR3aeL.
im getting the sapphire OC edition. and yh i think ill be ditching the colour scheme and going MSI by the sounds of it.
Thanks guys

Cool james, I tend not to keep up on politics of company's this days, in fairness I am an MSI or Asus fan mainly cuz they have always worked and never failed me in all the years I have used them, there something to be said about sticking to what you know :-).

are the 670s that much better than the OC 7950? i ask because when the 7950 is oc'd further its beta than the 7970...

When you compare overclocks like this - dont forget you can also overclock the 7970 and 670...
The 670 is around 10% faster than the 7950, and consumes less power, and will be quieter too - depending on which cooler you get.

It's worth it really :)
