Is the 680 worth the extra £80-100 more than a 670 ?

On the look out for a new card. Running a 9800gt right now and always had nvidia cards so would lick to stick with them sorry amd :). So is the gtx680 really worth the extra cost of the gtx670. I will gaming at 1920x1080 and will do sli at a later date as games get more demanding.

any opinions greatly received :)

Nope, not at all. 680 is only about 3-5% faster than a 670. Also, the 7970 is faster than the 680 but is the same price so at the end of the day the only 2 high end cards you should consider are the 670 and the 7970 imo

guess im gona go for for the 670 been looking at the KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 EX OC. never heard of the make before are they any good ?

Haven't heard much about KFA but I did a quick google search and it looks like the exact same card as the Galaxy 670, probably just rebranded, and the Galaxy card is a good option. I could be wrong though.

thanks for all the help guys in steering me the right way !

EDIT: just seen the MSI GeForce GTX 670 1019MHz version is that better ?

I do yes. It is silent, keeps it cool enough under load with the fans locked to 30% even.

So from my point of view it's brilliant. Mine wasnt the best clocker though, so not sure if I can put that down to the card or mine specifically

ya know y'all keep saying a 670 is faster than a 680 when ya oc it. Which is accurate but its not faster than a 680 when the same oc is applied to the 680 so is it worth it to go 670 most likely if you want to oc your card 24/7. If your happy with it stock then thats cool as well. But I like comparing apples to apples in a general sense not saying this granny smith apple will be better than that Washington state apple once its ripened more. Lets not bullshit about yes a 670 will be faster than a 680 once you oc the 670 but the 680 will be even more powerful once its oc'd as well. And IMHO thats more important than saving 80quid if it was in my budget to buy either of them.

And then it all depends on if the card you get can handle the oc (or the rest of your rig) As some have noted their card wasnt the best oc'r and companies do not guarantee overclock ability its a bonus not a right.

Yeh I do get that completely...

But even stock for stock or OC for OC, there isnt a lot of difference.

Also, between the 2 versions the OP is thinking of, the KFA2 cards - there is a £120 difference.
Lets say that £120 difference equates to 10 extra FPS - which is more than it would in reality anyway... I could not justify spending that money on the 680, when it'd always have in the back on my mind; 'if I'd have spent a little more I could have had SLI 670s' - which would then equate to massive FPS gain in comparison to the maximum of 10 from the 670 to 680.

I agree people do tend to overlook the 680's OC potential, but even with it, it doesnt exactly run away from the 670...

jj welcome to the OC3D forums,
as the OP asked.. going from the 9800GT to the 670/680 paying the extra $$ yields
limited gains, but that is depending on what applications or games used.
not to pick on your current choice, but any 5/6-series would be an attractive
upgrade to what you are using now..
