Is my motherboard meaty enough?

Hello everyone

I would appreciate any help in a question for my lastest edition to my system!
I have just ordered a samsung 960PRO 512GB to use for my OS and a few main games for best performance.

I am worried that my motherboard wont be able to use the full potential of the 960PRO due to its age and my two GPU's running SLI taking alot of lanes from the motherboard :/

I'll list my rig below (Well the important bits anyway) and see what people think
MB: GA-X79-UD3 LGA2011
CPU: 4930K i7
GPU: 2x iChill hybrid 980ti (Running SLI)(slot 1 & 3)
960PRO using WINGS PX1 M.2 to PCIe X4

Again any help is much much appreciated and thank you for your time!!!! :)

Motherboard has nothing to do with it, unless you get into PCIE2 versus PCIE3 arguments. You have a CPU with 40 PCIE lanes, so you're fine man. X79 for life, errr until something better than x99 comes along!! :D

I don't exactly recall how many PCI-e lanes that CPU has, but I'm guessing at least 28. Don't believe that would be an issue for you, however your motherboard is quite old, so it won't support booting from Windows since it lacks support for NVMe.

It has 40 lanes. It should work with the 960, so long as you have a good X4 PCIE adapter. It should be bootable too. The NVME to PCIE conversion should be taken care of by the adapter? kinda like how some SATA cards are bootable and others not?

I used my PCIE RAIDR in X79 and it worked fine, and I have the same X79 UD3 as you and it boots from a Revodrive.

Edit. Yes, the Wings adapter should take care of it all and make it bootable. I would be amazed if it did not.

Again Thanks for the feedback

Taken from OCUK website the Wings PX1 description states "The Wings PX1 offers full, unrestricted performance supporting both M.2 NVMe and AHCI SSDs"

So i am presuming that it should be fine to boot from? like you said AlienALX, it should be fine :)

As for the PCI-e lanes this is quite new to me i don't know a great deal about it but as you guys have stated it looks like its up to the job :)

Thanks guys
