it has already been said....but it should be emphasized....
the AMP edition takes up 3 slots....so not the best choice for multi card layouts
I believe that, no matter what air cooler is stuck on the reference design...the gtx480 will always run hot....
the only way I could see getting past that is h20
I am in the same predicament. I have 2 480's in SLI and the temperature is just totally unacceptable. I have great airflow in my case, and the top most card idles at 78c
If you want a setup that runs cool and quiet, just go for 460's in SLI...just keep in mind that that will be a closed upgrade path....as you can only run 2 of them
AMP edition is really not a long term solution, it's just a band-aid on a larger wound. Maybe if someone started tweaking the reference card layout and voltages, we could see some better temps....but I wouldn't count on that happening before a "better" GPU hits the shelf
I for one am a little disappointed in the heat issues of my 480's....but at the same time the performance is really astounding
Nvidia really killed a great product IMO....
the added cost of a larger PSU, and solutions to pull heat out of the case have really damaged a monster of a performer...too bad
but honestly dude, I don't regret buying my 480's...i would do it again if I had the money back....and I would still buy the reference design, not the AMP
just my opinion though
