iPod Docks

Just bought a new iPod dock the other day with the missus as we wanted to be able to listen to music in the office (our new office recently vacated by the worst housemate ever to have walked the Earth).

We strolled around in Currys, PC World, Comet and HMV just browsing seeing if we liked anything, and there was a small little set that I thought looked pretty nifty but had absolutely no bass whatsoever. I think it was a Gear4 jobby, so we tried out some of the bigger ones but they still sounded a bit thin.

Moved through some other stuff that was so awful I've heard better sounds come out of my arse, honestly they were so bad I don't know how anyone could ever buy some of them. Then I saw this Phillips dock for £99, which looked pretty good, and when we tested it the thing sounded amazing, probably the best sound from a dock I had ever heard, much better than anything Bose has made and better than the Zeppelin dock which has way too much base and not enough clarity.

Unfortunately the thing was too big to fit in the space we had on our desk, and I didn't want to spend too much money on a dock so we had to give it a miss, but not before testing it against the most expensive docks we could find, and each time amazed that this £99 Phillips sounded better in every way, every time.

Then we went into Tesco to pick up a Kindle for a friend, and lo-and-behold, they had the smaller version of the Phillips dock, for half price! Bought the thing and when we got it home, we were again amazed by the sound produced from such a small package. Brilliant clarity, plenty of bass and mids, and it looks quite funky too.

Here is a link to the smaller version: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.211-3543.aspx

We got the white version because that was all they had left, but it still looks pretty good, although black looks better in my opinion.

Here is a link to the £99 one, a MASSIVE bargain if you are looking for a dock which great sound: http://www.amazon.co.uk/DS8500-05-A...UO/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1306667187&sr=8-16

So if anyone is out for a dock, I recommend these docks every time, unless you have £900 to spend, then you should get the B&O dock of course.

Also, Philips do an even bigger one, which looks like the dogs, but I haven't found anyone that sells them yet so I haven't had a listen, but I get the feeling that it will give even the most expensive systems a run for their money.

Hope this helps anyone looking for a dock in the future! Does the forum have a suggestions area where we can suggest products to buy based on user experience?

I have a logitech set. I've been happy with them except the volume doesn't go high enough. I can barely hear them over my kerosene heater (when it kicks on) when I'm working in the garage in the winter. Other than that, they have great sound compared to other sets and the battery life is really good.

I made my own out of a speaker that plugs into the wall, a head phone jack, part of the plastic case the Ipod comes with and a little hot glue. I just snap my ipod into it and it is good to go. Sounds great.... But is only for playing, It can not charge the Ipod.

This one doesn't come with a remote, which is a bit annoying but I don't mind too much as it's right in front of me on the desk.
