Interesting comparison between the last 3 gen "Gaming processors"

So I stumbled across this article comparing gaming performance of Haswell, Ivy, and Sandy. Some very interesting results for anyone who purely uses their rig for gaming and great news for people like me who still haven't upgraded from their 2500K.

One thing I did find most shocking was that whilst on stock the processors are getting more efficient once you overclock them this goes out the window with the 2500K having thee least power draw.

Would love to hear your thoughts guys/Tom?

now we see why I didnt shell out for the last 2 gens my 2600K @4.5GHz still rocks the house and then some

My only concern with the tests is that they didn't test newer games which may better use the cores or higher res games than 1080p but still at least I can be pretty safe in assuming that I will only be upgrading my GPU now and can probably hold out till Skylake/Broadwell

Pretty much why I still have a 2500k, there is just no reason what so ever to upgrade it. I will probably still be using it in a years time, although I might grab a 3770k if games start to show a decent performance increase with multi threading.

There is around a 10fps difference between a 2500k and a 3770k as it is now, but I can get more of an FPS boost from a better GPU and i'd rather buy a better GPU than upgrading my CPU as things stand. My 7950 runs all the games I play at a decent frame rate so I see no need to upgrade that either till late next year.

Completely agree. My 560Ti is starting to ever so slightly show its age though so am considering upgrading to a beastly card when money permits. Probably gonna go with the Green team again as I really like the idea of GSync but as with any big purchase we will see what's best at the time. What's the expected maxwell release date? anyone know?

hahahaha Nice!!! i spend my money very well on my 2500k!!! It´s with reviews like this that makes people think twice before upgrading anything!!! :D

I have just made a thread about upgrading my 2500k, i dont think i will now, only going to upgrade my mobo now :D and the money i save i might xfire my Club3D 7950 :D

There have been rumours that Maxwell maybe coming in Feb, but there have also been ones that it's coming in Q2 ~April or even later.

Don't think will will know for sure until Q1 at the earliest next year.

I've seen no reason at all to even consider upgrading my 2500k. Only time i'd replace it is if I happen to find a few hundred quid or it dies :L. Only thing I need is an ssd and a better gpu.
