Intel's 18-core will not be released alongside their X299 platform

Nice one intel, you managed to ridicule yourselves trying to hit AMD who actually HAD an engineering sample of Threadripper.

lmao so that means another socket.

Actually no not a new socket at all.

As for the source of this post, an Asus forum mod... Enough said... It could be true, however too much is treated as factual these days on the Internet. It's like Wikipedia out there ;)

Watched Linus his video, yes. He has some points. Mine are:

Why Kaby Lake-X??
Why tim (I want to know the real reason regardless I accepted it)??
Prices could/should be more aggressive rather than arrogant.

Have folks seen Linus rant about this new range of Intel CPU's?

Yes. It's his first video where he isn't saying bullcrap. How he plugs in 2 ads in one video, rant video, only he could manage to do so. That ticked me off.
But he has a lot of good points. Intel don't know what to do and look like a headless chicken running around trying to throw everything at AMD but none of it even makes sense for a coherent lineup of products.

This sure is the weirdest platform launch they ever did in my lifetime. And the thing is, it didn't have to be... At all!!

I would really like an open and honest debate with Intel but that's not going to happen is it.

Probably not. Many people are annoyed, motherboard companies included, with this launch from Intel. I'd say it might be a little biased:p

I wouldn't want to be a board vendor engineer this round alright ugh. Intel sure found a way to make something easy incredibly difficult and unconventional. It would have been better if there was only Skylake-X and all SKUs had 44 lanes. That and the use of tim seem to be causing the most commotion to me.

I watched the video. Linus has the point. Intel just got caught. AMD will have advantage in enthusiast platform, and if Thread Ripper turns out to be good, and better than Intel has to offer now i see many people going for AMD way before Intel releases something to compete them with.

They'll have it across the board as well. Already the i3 and the i5 are meaningless. The only chip that still makes sense is the i7, and only if you can find it for about the same as the Ryzen equivalent because they overclock better. I'm not willing to even consider Intel at this point until they offer something similar to Ryzen for similar price. I'm looking at my Haswell i5 and it's making me feel like a dirty peasant.

It is very weird but not unexpected. They have been rationing their cores for years and years. If Ryzen didn't put the wind up them I would be amazed. And then a 16 core version? yeah, if I were Intel I would be panicking now too.

The problem is this is just a sheer display of how badly they have treated their audience for the last decade.

"Right, let's release nothing, maybe 3% and then when AMD come up with something decent we will take a ten year s**t and dump out everything we have all at once !".

Disgusting.

I don't think Intel realise that going from four cores to the absolute maximum is actually really, really ignorant. It's like that time when some poor tw*t loses on a game show and they say "Now let's take a look at what you would have won !!!"

Actually no not a new socket at all.

I thought the "lmao" part would have kinda given away the fact I was joking.

I'll wait for reviews on both. For example, TR its 2 chips on a die may cause large latencies. Let's see.

True. That is why i have said "if it turns out to be good". But this move from Intel is very amateurish.

Oh yeah in no way it was meant to correct you. Merely my staying in a holding pattern.

Oh sorry missed the sarcasm :p

I don't think it's disgusting from a business perspective; it's rather logical actually imo. Now if you ask me if I'd agree with their taken path... Hell no!

Them being caught with their pants down was bound to happen. It led to some obscure SKUs aside from those I mentioned above; who's the 12-14C for!?

Posers and show offs. Basically. Or the small (and it's very small) handful of benchmark professionals like 8-Pack and so on to play with.

TBH after the contempt they have showed their users I am amazed you want to wait for reviews. What you mean is you are going to wait to see how hard they are going to kick you.

Killer filler is what I dubbed them. :D

Well I'll be in the market for a HEDT platform that gives me everything I am looking for and I suspect that it is Intel, and I admit not being interested in the opposition for a variety of reasons. I cannot make purchases based on company policies etc. (it would make my life impossible); Intel doesn't care what I do and I don't care for Intel specifically. They just happen to provide the things I like.

I do feel they need to lower their prices, and hopefully they will once AMD unveils theirs. Not holding my breath, but I hope.

I'm looking at my Haswell i5 and it's making me feel like a dirty peasant.

But why? 99% game or something that needs less power than gaming.

BOTH AMD and INTEL are ers in that term. They try to make it sound like you need a new CPU, but do you???

Take it you have a powerfull GPU, a better CPU would maybe give you a benefit i some games. But how many %??? And if you go from 110 to 120FPS in some games, is it worth a 1000£ upgrade? :)

Ohhh but i render. Yes then find a program that can use your GPU its a lot better.

Intel should have done what Nvidia did. The competition is going to introduce something.
Then come with something good, at a reasonable price BEFORE the competition launches, and lower the price on your current stuff. Instead of ing around. But they probably don't care about the consumer market, as the earn a tone of money selling xeons.
