Intel to release a 6-core mainstream "Coffee Lake" CPUs in 2018

Oooooooooh! Interesting!
This may justify an upgrade from my 4770k if it really does turn out to be true.
Time to save up? haha

If Zen is what I think it is they will need a mainstream 6 core CPU far, far sooner than that.

I've been playing with my lady's rig tonight (mine now) and Windows 10 seems to like using all 8 cores, and boosting the ones it is using. It's very clever.

I'm more excited than I should be for Zen and Vega ^_^

Do correct me if I am wrong, but I think these are only for mobile devices? I believe desktop will only have: Cannonlake, Ice Lake, Tiger Lake.

Yeah there's quite a bit of confusion about this lol. The image itself clearly indicated it's only mobile CPU's.

Notice it also says BGA chips. BGA is soldered to the PCB unless somethings changed?

A few months ago (this news is a tad old actually) I looked for more information online and all I saw was them being for mobile parts.

Is it only me thank thinks every new name just sounds more childish than the last one?...Ie, Cannon Lake, Ice Lake, Tiger Lake, Coffee Lake?.

AFAIK they are actual names of lakes in the United States. Intel always picks domestic site names, AMD overseas ones. Tbh, I don't really mind whatever they call it.

I thought so too but if you search maps, the only one that pops up is Cannon Lake

As a biology researcher I know that often smaller water bodies are not on a map due to their small size, or, they have been renamed (uncommon in the western part of the world though). Either way, it doesn't really matter I suppose.

Ice Lake Basin Trail is a 6.1 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Silverton, CO that features a lake and is rated as difficult.

Sky Lake is a census-designated place and an unincorporated area in Orange County, Florida, United States. The population was 6,153 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Tiger Lake is a lake in Carver County, Minnesota, in the United States. Tiger Lake was named from early sightings of mountain lions near this lake.

- seems they might also be area names and not lakes perse.

Ok ok I get it smarty pants;)
Pretty cool that you know all that though. Interesting field of expertise tbh

Correct, Intel always named their IPs after rivers, mountains and lakes near their HQ location. However the latest series have abandoned that so the references are completely unknown.

Perhaps they are losing the plot :D
