Intel to Display SandyBridge-E chips at London International Technology Show 2011

Hi,

Considering the performance we get from Sandy Bridge, especially overclocked, I'm keen to see how SB-E pushes the game on.

I expect that per-core and for a given clock speed we'll see marginal improvements in real terms. Obviously memory bandwidth is basically doubled potentially but I don't think that will necessarily translate to better gaming performance, but will make some nice benchmark results

Also, doesn't F&H love memory bandwidth?

I think it's extra cores that'll give the most marked benchmark improvement, but again, how this translates to gaming where rarely more than one or two cores are genuinely pushed I don't know. However, those that use their PC's for more demanding tasks will likely want all the power they can possibly get. Personally my "powerful" machines are just gamers, the hand-me-downs (my Q6600 for example) are more than adequte for their current roles.

Still, exciting tech, though for me at least the shrink to IB is the more significant milestone *

It's pretty cool really, because once again we're likely to be provided with more CPU horse-power than we need...gotta love that right?

Cheers,

Scoob.

* Caveat: Of course, if someone would like to give me an SB-E system then I'd not object! lol

I saw a SB-E cpu yesterday

local gamer shop I visited has one just no mobo to play with it on. Was my first time visiting this shop (been wanting to for along time) The guy was very cool and talked with me for awhile about his store and what he carried. Anywho cant wait to see what they put out performance wise.

Wow that's awesome

What model did you see?

ya know I was in such a wow'd state I didnt even bother checking which model lol all I saw was the cpu not the box or anything and didnt handle it much as i had my 3yo in my arms at the time and shes a grabber lol. And once she gets her hands on it bammm straight to the mouth it goes. Didnt have the cash on hand to pay for it if'n she ruined it lol.I was there shopping for a new keyboard think I found what i'm looking for in the Steel series MERC Stealth

Right guys, back from the LITS 2011, got a few pics, going to be uploading soon and also telling what i saw at the event so look at for that thread

I have about 48 pictures to do so its going to take some time as my uploads are not great

me thinks if the quad core SB-E is rubbish i shall move my rig over to the 2600k

dude the quad will be pants as its only clocking on the fsb and the sandybitch wont clock on the fsb as we have seen with the 2500/2600k unless intel has worked some magic on it.

the entry model for us is the 39x0k and then we are talking more money than your cpu/mobo and ram just for a chip :|

i so need to win the lotto

The bclk will only clock buy a few fsb, less than 10 is what has been mentioned on a few sites that have leaked stuff so far, you just get a choice of strap to choose.

As for the entry level hex core, you are looking at half the price of the top end chip probably.

Should get a modest 5Ghz from it, but it will eat up your power!

thanks to all those who voted for me to become a moderator here at

i am very pleased with my new position, and i hope to be a valuable part of the team.

PS: thanks for all the 'congrats'

That thing does nothing for me i like the idea of the waterfall. Not opposed to the idea of being fully submerged but the thing looks retarded imo. I thought it when i first saw the concept. I havent changed my mind

it is difficult i had heard that you could OC using the base clock on SB-E but it i don't think it was ever confirmed

tbh i will most likely stick with my i7 till it either dies and costs to much to replace compared to whats on the market (RAM, CPU or Motherboard) or it just isn't powerful enough for my needs (most likely still be using it in 2020 if that's the case
