Hi just wanted some of your views as to which socket motherboard I should buy... I didn't want to spend too much on a cpu for now so was looking at the i7 2600k or the i7 960. I realy like the look go the G1-Killer Sniper motherboard (1366) as I have a thing for the green and black...

Its been a while since I last built a system, back then it was an nForce motherboard running a core 2 duo...

I wanted a base that I could build on in the future but haven't got much of a clue between the i7's

Thanks in advance

1366 is a dead socket now and 1155 is cheaper and if you are going for a 2600k also faster. Plus 1155 has an upgrade path to Ivy Bridge there will be no more updates for 1366 so personalty I would go 1155 and grab a 2500k for now then upgrade to Ivy Bridge when they are released.

Also Gigabyte have just today by coincidence announced they are releasing the G1 Sniper 2 Z68 PCI-E 3.0 Gen 3 board so thats also good news if you want to stick with the black and green.

LGA 1366 is literally a couple months away from being replaced by LGA 2011, the new high performance enthusiast socket.

LGA 1155 is the way to go if you have to build right now, but if you can, better to wait to Ivy Bridge's release in say Q1 2012, possibly Q4 2011.

Whatever happens now, 1366 is not the answer
