Intel now offer Pentium CPUs with Hyperthreading

Derped clock speeds. Wouldn't say $94 is insanely cheap for a dual core w/ht in this day and age.

One thing AMD always did was spank Intel for budget CPUs, so I have a feeling these "insanely low" prices won't stay where they are for long.

The lack of those instruction sets shouldn't affect general office productivity at all either correct? Looks like Intel just gave large offices the ability to have strong general purpose machines at bit lower price point, albeit without the fun Intel core sticker on the case.

I think it is more that nearly everything these days is using at least four cores so they can't get away with selling dual core CPUs any more. Especially in gaming, where some games will actually refuse to run on dual core CPUs (like the stupid Pentium they launched).

Intel like releasing too little too late.

Haha agreed. Starve them versus bloat, unless it's with shear number of SKU's with Intel.

"Hey in i3's, we've got a 3.2ghz-3.9ghz range in 100mhz steps because why not?!" - Haswell used car salesman.

Perhaps number of sku's from basically any maker of anything is to make someone feel like they have something more tailored for them? But then again, there are the hugely successful singular product lines such as flagship devices/cars/sex robots etc etc.

I was more thinking in their potential price reduction to mega scale system providers like HP, Lenovo etc that generally won't put more than an i3 in the general office drone systems where their real revenue / predictable income cycles keep the silicon mill churning.
