Intel launches their QLC-powered 660p series of NVMe SSDs

This is why I'd love an external aluminium *to act as passive cooling* USB-C NVME enclosure, With prices coming down I could stick a 2TB 660P in it and use it for external storage or on the go storage.

USB to NVMe is impossible because they're PCI cards. Closest you can get is Thunderbolt.
 
They could probably come up with some type of converter inside the box albeit would probably be costly.

Costly and most likely would impact performance as it wouldn't have access to the PCI lanes and would be, as you said, converted in some form.

Now...will we eventually make it happen? yes of that I have no doubt, but that is probably a few years or more away.
