The 7600K is only slightly faster than my 4670K at 4.5Ghz in Fire Strike. Considering the boost clock might be around 4-4.2Ghz for the new i5, that's marginal gains over multiple generations. I'm starting to hope Zen utterly annihilates Intel and embarrasses them. At first I just wanted a competitor, but now I hope Zen outsells Intel in 2016 and onward until Intel release their 6-core CPU's for the mainstream market, or maybe makes hyper-threading more affordable.

why Kaby Lake

Why did Intel even bother making Kabylake ? Getting kinda tired of Intel putting out CPU's worth only a 10% improvement over the previous gen.If they can't put out a CPU that would be good for a 40% improvement at the very least, why even bother doing it at all .Tired of Intel's putting the carrot in front of the cow approach to how they are handling their CPU releases to the public.

Fingers crossed for Zen! 8 cores is going to be the way to go in future. I'm not sure how long Intel can keep pushing 10% improvements. Consumers are more savvy than Intel think.

It's the same reason they have/are letting go of 12,000 staff members.

Why o why Intel, what is the point? 10% pffft

Because they need something new to compete with Zen. If they just left Skylake as it were then every one would be attracted to new shiny. This way Intel have new shiny too.

Still at least it basically stops me sweating so much about spending what I did on a X99 rig. Seems I was right too, it should last me freakin years.

Hell, X79 is still a valid platform that has already lasted ME years, and will last even longer, since I refuse to go X99. ;) Your X99 rig will last a loooong time. Or until you get the upgrade itch. :D

For how long will X99 be good for then you guys think?... 2020, 2022? :p

Why would they spend money making large improvements when they are going to be the best either way. Until AMD release Zen which is hopefully a solid competitor, Intel don't really need to make anything more than minimal gains per generation.

Quite a few years at least bud, Even when the platform that comes after X99 comes out there won;t REALLY be any need to go for it unless you do heavy rendering work or you just NEED the latest CPU.

Awesome, as just got the 6900K to be set for few years ahead :) Cheers bud!

All that's left now is the Acer Predator X34P monitor and then I'm all set :)

Nice !

I'm getting the 6900K for myself for Christmas ^_^

Yup, and selling my 5820K system soon to finance the 6900K a bit :)

Haha I know mate, a small percentage of why I also got the 6900K. Yeah, really :p ... I just couldn't resist anymore :p

Idk why you all are upset. It's still 14nm and only a refined process/architecture. You can't expect massive gains?
It's more impressive than you think. Yeah they've only done 10% improvement for a couple generations, but you have to remember that they are also decreasing the overall area dedicated to the CPU and the GPU portion is actually getting larger. So they are getting more performance and efficiency all while decreasing the CPU size. That pretty impressive.

A very unexciting launch.
It's for people building new systems basically - no-one on skylake is going to upgrade and those of us on X99 have already chosen a different path
