Intel is reportedly working on a new x86 architecture, which will offer faster speeds a leaner design and will release to the desktop/enterprise market in 2019/2020.

I've not had a reason to upgrade from Sandy Bridge and next time round it wont be Intel, honestly feel they have shot themselves in the foot with the consumers over the last few years with cheap tim and tbh penny pinching like that is greed.

If new AMD line comes close to performance, and lower in price Intel is in problem, because I think they can't milk current technology any more. New 7xxx series sounds to me like rebranding of the 6xxx with some minor tweaks. Going for completely new architecture is the only way to go. And i think it is good for the market, and us as customers. With explosion of technology in recent times (fast storage, RAM that goes faster than many processors,...) new stuff is definitely needed. As Clarksonius the Wise said: "More is better."

Creating a x64 bit only architecture? Interesting indeed. If AMD move this way too, it might actually work in adoption rates from software companies.
Probably doing this to avoid more lawsuits between them and AMD over x86.

they've probably been sitting on this idea for awhile but had no one pushing them to innovate. glad AMD is shaking things up again finally.. last time they did that we eventually got the I7.. which was rebranded and sold to us over and over again under the guise of a "tick-tock" strategy. Only ever changing the die enough to force a new motherboard in the process. Intel has left such a bad taste in my mouth over the last decade, if AMD is even close, that will be my brand of choice for the foreseeable future. regardless of the price (can't be any worse).

Could just be a ruse to stop people jumping to AMD and leaving intel hanging, how many will wait for the next new thing coming
