I came close to buying into Sandy Bridge in January, but as usual funds were needed elsewhere and I ended up with a P55 socket Board and CPU setup. If I had it to do all over again I would still buy the Sandy Bridge if I had the cash to do it. Yeah,....I would.
Intel has stated their responsibility in the matter and has said that if you can't get satisfaction with your board's manufacturer, they'll make it good with you. They're offering free shipping and for boutique PC's a free part and the labor to do the swap. Intel is paying your manufacturer all associated costs to make it good with you.
For a home PC builder like me, the most trouble would be the actual swapping of the board because it's all paid for by Intel. I don't mind swapping a board out, it's what I do as a hobby and it's fun for me.
Most Sandy Bridge owners aren't even affected by this errata yet, because it takes time for the problem to manifest itself. But they still have that awesome Sandy Bridge performance when they switch on their PC, and they still have those awesome Overclocking capabilities too.
This is not really such an Earth Shattering problem as I see it,........
