I think there was a "Leak" a few weeks or months ago, that the next CPU's from Intel would be soldered and not using TIM.

What would be nice though is if Intel decided to sell "De-Lidded" CPU's already so you can choose to have a mount straight to the "Die" or use your own "TIM (Liquid Metal )", but then also sell some that have the IHS pre applied using Solder or TIM, for those who have no issues with the way they are.

I mean I bought my 7700K, and within a week it was de-lidded, simply because of the temps being so stupid, talking over 80c per core with a H100i V2 at "Stock" but de-lidded same setting's, it hit's just over 60c per core with a H100i V2 using OCCT AVX.

If this doesn't require exotic cooling (or even just a big AIO) and a fancy motherboard, these CPUs will pretty much own Ryzen+ in terms of performance. Intel will be back on top of the performance charts across the board. This is will be great for people who want to buy AMD because it will likely spell a big price drop for Ryzen+. We could see the 2700X drop to €250.

Note how it isn't all-core. Efficiency goes up pretty damn quick once you dial multiplier down a couple of notches.

Probably not too different from Coffee Lake. Runs hot, but nothing ridiculous. Ridiculous comes in when you go for 5GHz all-core...

But binning has to be pretty good, so I expect high prices.

I really just don't see a need to have yet another line up of chips.. they could easily have made the i9 an i7 part instead of adding yet more confusing to a very convuluted past 2 years of CPU launches

I have a 7700K de-lidded and can run it easily at 4.7Ghz at 1.15v but I don't bother, I just leave it at 4.5Ghz at Auto volts in the bios since, the performance drop's on the CPU by dropping the voltage.

I only game on my main machine now, and don't really need to overclock it even when rendering a video on it, if my other machine is busy.

My next chip will probably be capable of overclocking but I probably won't overclock it, since I just don't need to but for the sake of usually around £20 I don't see the point in not buying the version that cannot be overclocked, that is unless I go AMD for my next one.

That makes no sense. Performance should not drop due to low voltage. That just means your OC was not stable.
