Intel CPUs using AMD GPU hardware could launch in 2017

I think it would offer a perfect solution to system builders and have minimal effect on enthusiasts

While this is a double edged sword, it'll be nice to see more systems have better iGPUs regardless which CPU they have.

I just hope AMD will use the added revenue to boost their R&D.

It's a double edged sword though, as it could hurt sales of there own stuff

Not sure. There are plenty of people out there who would not buy an AMD CPU no matter how good it is. If you ever needed confirmation of that think about how Intel survived Netburst and RDRAM. It was absolutely awful yet people still bought P4s in spite of AMD.

I guess it depends how you look at it. Glass half full or empty? do you gain a sale from every person who wouldn't buy your product or lose a sale to your competition?

At the end of the day I reckon AMD will win from this. They will earn money from every CPU sold, not just their own. So no lost sales at all.

Well AMD would probably give them older architecture and slower stuff than what AMD put into there Apus themselves currently. So it shouldn't be too bad. After there deal ends, AMD could refuse to give them more stuff, which in the future would hurt Intel as they would at that point be way way behind on R&D and staff capable of making a new GPU.

Also the level of market saturation amd could achieve is potentially very high. This makes amd hardware the priority when it comes to optimisation. Amd graphics in Intel, amd and console systems. Look out nvidia

I don't think they would legally get away with that tbh dude.

This will be nothing but good for amd in the short-term. Every cpu will be a revenue stream of course that is only if Intel put it in ALL of there cpus.
They could limit it to the lower end market as most who are buying for gaming won't care about the igpu.
Also what's not to say Intel don't learn what amd are doing and recycle and improve the design for their next tick?

Depends on the contract

I can't see Intel signing a contract to say that they would accept hobbled GPUs dude.

I can see both sides to this (both the lost sales and gained sales) so I really don't know how they will do it but I can't see Intel agreeing to take weaker GPU cores knowing AMD's are going to be better.

Maybe AMD's long term idea is to get out of the CPU area completely and just make stuff for other people?

Screw Intel, they are the needy ones here. AMD would be mad to screw themselves over. They hold the leverage here

I thought this came out as a rumor months ago and Intel Quashed it?

Looks like there is more truth to it after all.

I think after numerous failed attempts from Intel to compete with AMD's APUs (and losing) they swallowed their pride. I remember reading about this as a rumour ages and ages ago..

I *think* Intel have signed some sort of contract with Apple, so yeah I could be onto something with the Apple link. They may just use them in Apple laptops and desktops, 'cause let's face it right now they are crap for gaming.
