The Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core OEM/Tray Processor is about $20 less than the regular ones are. What are the differences? Is one better than the other?
 
Doesn't come with the intel stock cooler. That's the only difference I know of. Just means you need to have an air cooler or AIO already.
 
No fancy box, no cooler, no Intel Inside sticker. Same CPU, different packaging. If you are an end user you should buy the retail box IMO. It's good to have the stock cooler as a backup in case things go randy in the future, and resale should be more appealing to the next user with the box and stock HSF.
 
That is true Lazlo but it is worth mentioning that the odds of needing a warranty on a CPU are slim to none. It's the least likely component in your PC to suffer a failure. Unless you abuse it.
