Interesting comaprison there Dumo mate, is that both under phase cooling?

Interesting too that the lower clocked Intel unit performs admirably.

Core- Duo - is that the Yonah CPU (Mobile) ?

Be interesting to see crossfire performance too.

Mmmm, the dark side does beckon doesn't it :)

450Mhz difference isn't small either.

Only if the crossfire/sli solutions continue to evolve.

My plan this year is this:

Deffo upgrade to G71's

Possible G80 upgrade

Possible physix upgrade (if it's worth it in benches and games support)

Possible CPU upgrade

After that - I'll be stepping back for while and maybe even steering away from benching (as the financial commitments for the next 18 months or so are allocated elsewhere).

Ideally, I'd like to stay as UK's benching no1 til the end of the year but it'll be a year in June since I was outright number one (officially 12months 27th July 06 tho) battling with the top 5 for 12months already - and I still have games I aint even opened yet (HL2 for instance) that I really want to play.

During this sabbatical I can play those games, support the team and find out (of someone else insted of me lol) who's the new daddy for 2007, AMD or Intel before diving in with more upgrades.

What we really need are more benchers to take the mantle and run with it.

Mav, the Yonah was on the stock air cooler with 1.5v :) So under cold its should be terrific.

I'd have liked to see them at the same clock speeds though since to compare the CPU scores

What does one have to do to become the UK's #1 bencher then? Spend crap loads of cash, get some awsome gear and put out some sweet numbers?

Not always. Everything mav used is off the shelf parts except his volt modded 7800 beauties which in a few days will be mine :D

I'm planning my next upgrade already tho and looking at both routes very closely. Now that I found out the company I work for is an Intel supplier and registered system builder, it's pretty easy to get hold of Intel kit VERY fast.

I am contemplating a Dothan setup, but REALLY don't want to use an AGP card, and there is no PCI-x boards out yet except an Aopen which costs silly money. Definately no SLI or X-Fire yet tho :(

We shall see.

controversial :O

I will answer it like this - you need to invest for sure, but I have seen people here splash out and crash and burn.

Also - on reflection of 2005, you had me scorchio and Gollum all jostling for no1 for 2-3 months - in the end the guy with the best kit was not outright number one ;)

Also there are levels too - sinlge card, single core, Intel/AMD - it all helps, we have record holders here and not because they are the fastest overall, but because they are the fastest with what they have.

So we're talking overall world ranking postions right (ie ORB Hall of fame?)

Btw, not meaning to be controversial just trying to understand what being the #1 uk bencher means :)

Depending on which way this is viewed by yourself and others here dictates the approach required to achieve such a status imo.

You are absolutely right - I decide to take a sideways step and avoid this one I urge others to do the same.

I am sure you agree as it can only end in flames and/or tears as everyone will have different views.

Yup deff, a little friendly competion over the many areas can only be a good think for the UK benching scene though for sure.

We need to get some meets sorted, get the best of the hardware and minds in 1 place and get some ORB shattering numbers out. We've got the cooling gods, expertise, mods and sure theres some sweet hardware kicking about

I understand what you are saying (well now I do lol) - just beingthe best with what you have is great.

Of course to make it on the world scene we have to be fast as hell too - benchmarks are almost like Boxing divisions:

Heavyweights - big investment (usually fastest CPU and GPU with good overclocking potential), packs a mahoosive punch, some clever boxers required to succeed at top level - most will have a punchers chance :)

Middleweights - high/clever investement (eg: opteron user) boxes clever to get more speed.

Lightweights - average investment, hardest to squeeze a few more points from, most rewarding if you get a record or top 10 ranking.

Thats just an analogy - but I think u catch the drift - last year I managed to be a heaveyweight champion :)

Cool cheers for that.

Would say I'm in the lightweight class atm, playing with the middleweights :) But again that depends if we're talking overall ORB rankings or for card/platfrom you're running

Boardy there are a few PCI-e dothan mobos, mainly the P4GD1 which is nigh on impossible to find or the Asus P4GPLX which is around £60 new.

They just use the crappy chipsets compared to better board such as the p4c800.
