Im building a HTPC very soon, would this be better than a Athlon X2 3800+ 2.0Ghz? bearing in mind I will be using a microATX motherboard.

It's the entry level core2. Iirc the celeron replacements are the single core conroe-l. These seem to be aimed at the 3600 and 3800 x2s.

If it's a fully featured C2D then it's a bloody bargain and would beat out an X2 3800

Here are some benches for it, not far off an e4300 at all! Just seems like a cut down allendale tbh. Slower clocks and half the cache. Could be a pretty good chip!

havnt looked at the boards for Intel yet as it was already specced to be an AMD system, so ill look into that now.

the C2D motherboards are a bit more pricey then AMD ones, but you do get the sheer power of the C2D chip.
