There is financially viable and there is financially viable. Lip Bu Tan would be wise to have an exit strategy for when AI goes tips up: mid-range gaming GPU is an open goal atm: when the other buggers wise up, it'd be genius to find Intel had stolen a ruddy great march on everyone else!
Having all your eggs in one basket is not a sound investment strategy and as a newbie runt with near-zero traction Intel are only going to get anywhere significant by gambling anyway.
Ngreedia GPUs are probably over-priced tat, but they can't be dislodged and own the market because once upon a time they weren't. Intel could do and be similar while everyone else is distracted. They are still going to be the newbie runt with near-zero traction in the AI GPU space for Data centre settling for scraps anywho.
