Hi guys

so i recently posted about my ssd not working and i got a replacement the old one i struggled to get windows on it and when i eventual did it didn't work properly.

So now i have another one on this ssd i have the bios settings to ide (due to ahci not working on installation) i am using a genuine iso of windows home premium 64bit ive tried another download to and a copy of ultimate none of those worked so earlier when i got this to work (on the ultimate version) i had it set to ide and formatted the drive using a different installation i don't have any other hdd plugged in and it booted but every time i did something it would come up with "setup.exe bad image windows 7" then i've tried to install a number of other ways and i now get system cannot continue due to a corrupt installation i have tried so many different ways none of them work so could any one please point me in the right direction of how to install this because its getting incredibly frustrating.

if you need more info just ask
many thanks luke

As far as I know you need to have the bios set to ahci for a ssd , that's how I have it set and never had a problem, I have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

I'm going to have to admit it's extremely hard to follow that huge sentence. Could you rewrite it a bit clearer?

This isn't essential just advised :)

First things first.

What model SSD?
Which Motherboard are you using? (include bios ver)
Which Sata cables are you using? (II or III)
Which optical drive are you using? (Old/New)

It's all important info.

Sorry i wrote it in a rush,

I have a new SSD as i thought the old one was faulty

i have had the bios settings to ide and AHCI neither work

i am using a genuine ISO of windows home premium 64bit i have tried another download and i have tried different versions of windows all jsut come back with different errors during the install every single time i try i get windows can not install due to reason below please restart the installation and others tell me to contact the vendor.

so earlier when i got this to work (on the ultimate version) i had it set to ide and formatted the drive using windows on my HDD

i don't have any other hdd plugged in
i get multiple different errors not just the same one "setup.exe bad image windows 7"

Then i've tried to install a number of other ways and i now get system cannot continue due to a corrupt installation

i have tried so many different ways none of them work so could any one please point me in the right direction of how to install this because its getting incredibly frustrating.

I have read guides and i am an it student ive installed to ssd's before using usb drives just with my own computer there seems to be no way of installing it because i get stopped with a random error

The SSD is a Samsung 840 evo
My motherboard is an asrock extreme 7 gen3 z68 on the bios version P2.10
sata cables are sata 3
and i have no optical drive the installation is taking place on a usb drive

ok are you using the same usb drive everytime?? it may be bad. Second you say you formatted the drive using another windows hdd?? is that correct?

This is what I would do.
Get a new flash drive and make your windows install on it using a different computer.
boot up with nothing but the new ssd and flash drive installed for drives.
once your to the part of it copying files this is how it looks

hit shift F10 this will bring up the cmd prompt
when I say type I mean type whats between the "---" only not including the '---"
type "diskpart"
type "list disk"
select "disk 0" ( or what ever number is assigned to your ssd) be careful as you can accidentally select your flash drive
type "clean all"
when completed clean all will take some time depending on drive size
type "create partition align=1024"
when complete
type "format quick fs=ntfs"
when complete
type "active"
type "exit"
type "exit" yes thats 2 times lol
close out the install and let the rig reboot keeping the same 2 drives only installed. Now when you get thru the that splash screen i posted above install windows as normal. What you did was basically clean the ssd (or hdd) of any crap that was on it and made it factory fresh again. If you still get errors then you may not be stable or have another bad component causing errors.

SIN that is beautiful! Almost word for word what I was going to say in reply to Gamerpro105.
It does sound as though it's USB drive oriented also alternatively he could use a external optical drive or install a temporary internal. I tend to avoid USB installs as there are a multitude of things that can go wrong.

done well over 100 installs using a usb and not one failed lol. Last night I took down my ssd raid and I'm going to play with them unraided for awhile and see what if any performance differences I see. So far its been ok. I thought I'd see faster boot time since the raid bios wasnt having to load, so it did shave off 2-3 secs lol but it still has the achi screen so lol meh about the same lol. but anywho everytime I do a reinstall I use those commands and clean my ssd's

Probably an obvious 1 but are you plugging the flash drive into the same usb port every time always worth trying a different 1
