I did a mid range gaming build for a friend last night, but I when I powered it up first time I found the motherboard had already overclocked the processor to a stonking 4.5GHz! Anybody else had a similar experience?

The Motherboard used was a : Asus M5A97 PRO AMD 970 (http://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus-m5a97-pro-amd-970-s-am3plus-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-raid-sata-pcie-20-(x16)-atx)

And the CPU: an AMD CPU FX4100 Black Edition Quad Core (http://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-fx-4100-black-edition-orochi-core-s-am3plus-36ghz-8mb-total-cache-ht-3200mhz-95w-retail)

Does CPUz say that or is Windows reporting it? Is it stable? That's an insane auto overclock for sure.

Are you sure all four cores/threads are on? It might have knocked itself down to a dual core, as I'm pretty sure the FX chips can do.

on CPU-Z there's a button on the last tab on the right that says 'validate'

click this, then link us to the page

Sorry, it's not my computer, but i'll ask my mate to download cpu-z again and validate it when he has his internet connection back up and running

Nice, looking forward to see these results!

I've tryed using the auto overclocking feature on my board, (T-Power) it produced huge clocks but boosting up the vcore to acheive it (more than it needed!) So careful for that :S
