Basically we found his SB fan cooler...jammed stuck so probably his SB died from overheating (got boiling hot within 10 seconds...during testing). I cant see what else could have gone wrong

We are looking for a replacement kit/bundle/set of components for about £270/£300 at most. An effective core 2 duo/quad setup with 2gb of ram. (need proccy, ram and mobo).

Cheers

(any other ways to check if the mobo is dead?)

chances are the chipset overheated and killed mobo?

Whats happening? Is the 360 using the PC as a passthrough for the net?

Exactly

Is the mobo probably dead - no beeps on post even with every except cpu removed. The chipset fan was almost welded stuck and was very hot to touch within 10 seconds

Ok b4 he gets this he wants a cheap replacement board b4 upgrading

Are we agreed the mobo is deffo the problem especially if they chipset fan was welded stuck

I would certainly agree that the fan isn't a good sign, and subsequently, that the board may be stuffed. No POST beeps is certainly a likely indicator (unless the speaker is stuffed lol) of damage. Why does he want a cheaper board before upgrading? Just spend the money now and get some decent gear, especially the items Ham linked you to.

I want a cheap replacement, because atm i only have about £150. I don't really wanna borrow money off a mate, and i get paid monthly, so just want a crap replacement mobo for 2/3 months. So that in 2/3 months time i can get a pwnage pc, rather than a small upgrade. If any1 knows a good replacement mobo thats not very expensive (as ill only be using it for like 2/3 months) then please link (:

For £20 who cares how it performs? It will do until you have saved for new components... Google reviews. I have no amd experience so I can't help.

The K8N was a decent board in it's time,a Although I do remember some problems with certain PSU's, mostly Antecs I believe. Don't quote me on that one though

Get a DFI NF4 Ultra = t3h sex
