In need of confirmation on chosen SSD

Hello everyone

Very soon I'm going to have the money available to get an SSD which has been on my shopping list for a long time now.

Taken a read through Z0mB13's guide and have ended up with a 115GB Mushkin Callisto Deluxe.

Currently in Aria's SuperSpecials for £125.99, nearly £1 a GB.

Also running the latest SATA II 3Gb/s SandForce 1222 controller.

I only have SATA II ports on board hence I have chosen a SATA II drive.

So, my question is have I picked the right one?

Thanks in advance, Grizzly.

Edit: Another SSD I had in mind was the Kingston 128GB V100, as TTL has used a similar drive (V+100) in builds before which is now hard to get a hold of it seems from looking around places.

As you've got a motherboard with sata 2 on it then this ssd is fine, and it will use the full bandwidth of your motherboard. If you'd got an ssd with sata 3 speeds then its more expensive & your sata controller would bottleneck it. If in 6 months you feel its not quick enough - add another in raid 0.

If however you plan on upgrading your motherboard in the very near future then I would have gone with a sata 3 ssd instead...

If you're coming from a mechanical boot drive, then I don't think that you will be disappointed.

My main concern was actually is that particular drive best for my needs (OS boot) compared to other similar drives. Thanks anyway.

Not planning on upgrading motherboard too soon, another year if not more left in my current setup especially considering upgrades I've made to it so far, and yes I'm coming from mechanical.

In that case I think it'll be fine, as long as it performs to spec - those sandforce controllers are good, & 50,000 iops is no sloutch.
