I'm getting a Temjin....

Urgh. I'm not 100% sure this was the right thing to do, but I do know I've always loved Silverstone's cases. Oddly this case screamed something out to me that I couldn't ignore. It was a bit irresponsible but the case is just amazing.

So yeah. Today I realised I had to order a SATA PCI card. I had a look inside the PC and realised I only had 4 sata banks. Which is lame because I currently have -

1 Sony BDR

1 Corsair 32x SSD

1 500gb drive split up

1 WD Raptor (74gb SATA 150).

Now I have a new one coming tomorrow (Patriot 64gb SSD) and am out of slots. So obviously the first thing to go would be the Raptor. Thing is, the Raptor has XP on and I need it. So I ordered a SATA PCI bootable card for £9 del (SATA 150 but that's fine as the drive is 150).

Then I started poking around the net and found something that literally had me shaking. I tried SO HARD to resist but this seriously was an incredible bargain. I found a Silverstone Temjin TJ06 for £64. Even delivered it's £72 all in overnighted. The TJ06 is quite an old case (came out in 05) but it's simply HUGE. Full tower (and I do mean full) and in the most gorgeous brushed alu. I could only get it in silver, but that's OK cos silver doesn't show the dirt. It also comes with a window and the motherboard mounts upside down. I thought this was odd at first, and then I realised why.

Here is the front view. Isn't it just absolutely wa*kworthy?

The side of the face has a keylock and you cannot get it off without a key.

Note how the case is back to front, because the other side has the window.

Here's the back. And gives an idea of the scale of this thing. It's an absolute beast.

But, just check this out. Some of you will remember I was talking about making some ducted cooling a few weeks ago? No need.

The TJ06 has a transparent duct that slots right over your cooler and has a 120mm fan at each end. Isolating the CPU and blasting the tits off it.

BTW it *is* ATX, you mount it all upside down. This makes it easier for me because with CFX in my PC it's bloody hard getting to the bottom slots without removing the GPUs.

One last awesome thing is just the sheer scale of the bastard. It's not measured in cubic inches but acres. I've never had a full on proper tower since 1999. The worst part? Well, cable management looks virtually non existant, but I'm good with cable ties and I have a couple of clip kits here.

I may do a build log but let's face it, it's not going to be rocket science is it? I will be taking these out of the other Alienware and putting the BDR in there as that is my media machine.

So it'll all match. Hilarity of course is i can sell the black chassis for more than I paid for the Temjin.

Thoughts? like? not like? God that ducting thing is just SICK.

Well, what can I say, it's a beast! That case is sooo nice! I have an original Chieftec Server Case which I got for £20 from local PC shop in the window. I didn't realise what case it was until I got home.

That's a variant of the dragon. The full tower. Absolute classic TBH. I had a blue one and all my mates had them too.

I've always wanted a Temjin. Of course I'm going to get absolutely slaughtered by my family as I now need to find somewhere to hide this black chassis and no doubt one of my family members will end up with it stuck in their loft/garage

But it's a sound move IMO. If I want to upgrade coolers I can simply remove the duct but it'll fit. Whereas with the Alienware I would have to remove the side 120mm intake fan to clear a large cooler and that's a very bad idea. The only downside to the Temjin is it uses a 80mm intake (EWW) but I am going to mod that and fit a 120.

Having a window may also turn out to be a curse but tbh I'm sick of not having enough expansion space. Why on earth Alienware deemed fit to only give you 3 5.25 bays is beyond me.

Everyone used to have some variant of the full server case.... I remember my first one was purchased on my first AMD dual CPU rig, couldn't even remember what CPU's they were.... Some kind of original Athlons I think, not sure if they had the Opterons back then or not. But it was a great case!

@Alien: Temjin is super nice, who cares how old it is, at that price and how much room you get, that's a steal!

Not worth it Tom tbh. The add in and Raptor are for XP. Which at a push I could live without. A new mobo with Crossfire 6 sata and so on for me now would be a terrible move, as I have that amazing Dominator ram and it's DDR2 (which honestly I am perfectly happy with). To find a 6 SATA board now with XF would mean about £150 for a board that only supports DDR3 and my CPU is the 940, the last of the AM2+ which does not work or fit AM3 boards as the DDR3 control set is not on the CPU.

Without the expansion card? I can't boot XP. Whoopee dos tbh.

Only thing I am terrified of now is my PSU cables not being long enough. Well, two of them (ATX and 4pin). Everything else should reach fine.

Awww poo. Realised I needed the PP04 cable extension kit. Luckily Scan put it in the order for just the cost as I really didn't fancy dumping another £4 on postage.
