Well SWAG LINK

My questions,
  • What would be a realistic stable 24/7 overclock for this rig before & after the upgrade kit?
  • Is the Samsung RAM really as good as the hype?
  • What thermal paste should I use, or should I leave the stock pad on the H100?
  • Is there anything obviously missing from the build?
  • I am a big fan of Asus & Corsair, is there anything I am losing out on majorly buy selecting the above parts over other brands?

General thoughts and advice more than welcome. I have built alot of lower end machines for customers but this is the biggest rig I have ever built, and the first for myself.

Well enough of me, lets hear you!

The max safe overclock depends on 1. The silicon lottery. Not all prossesors are created equal. 2. The temps you get while overclocking.

As far as the ram goes. I have seen many reviews on so called GREEN ram and most of them show a 1w power draw difference. So the jury is still out on that for me

I would not recommend leaving the stock pad on the H100. It is not big enough for a for LGA 2011 cpu's get some MX-2 or MX-4 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835186038 its good stuff

Nope all looks good dont look like you missed anything major to get a pc up and running. Anything else is just makeup

No in fact i myself am a big fan of ASUS and Corsair also. Most of the time i find that when you dont go with the better brands you tend to wish you did.

Well thats my 2 cents. Hope you have fun with the build and get no DOA's

i would get the vengeance og dominator RAM instead,

I would allso recomend you not to get a SandForce SSD, Like the m4 form Crucial, and the performance pro form Corsair, the intel ssd's is allso a good choice, and the new 330series is allso well priced

almost the PC ive got except a few odd changes !

nice choice can't comment really except as crazyretardgamer said corsair dominator mem

Thanks for your response, what is DOA?

Sorry to clear up, are you saying that the Corsair Force Series 3 is a Sandforce SSD? Why are they bad?

Also I was originally looking at the dominator gt 2133 kit, but i've seen evidence that the samsung stuff can go just as high at 1.35-1.5v.

thanks for the response.

not that often, fortunately. Also, I recommend getting the bitfenix fans immediately (I have them in my 650D as well) because the stock Corsair fans are quite bad and the bitfenix ones perform so much better while also a lot quieter.

ok added mx-4 thermal paste, the 4 bitfenix fans and some vibration reduction washers to a new special tech order. That is another £60 order. Also pushed the Corsair Force 3 up to the Force GT. Looking at a may 7th trigger date. the idea is that this rig will be a suitable workstation for work and gaming for about 4 years with maybe the addition of a second 680.

OK, I got an email at like 8pm last night, my whole scan order got held because when they were picking it, they had no asus gtx680. So I rang them this morning and the motherload arrives tomorrow. meanwhile to keep you satisfied here is a picture of what has arrived so far.

Note that i ordered the samsung 30nm "wonder RAM", expect a full report. if it goes badly, I'll get some corsair dominator GT & probably sell the samsung kit.

the 3 x 120mm fans, i ordered spectre pro's but it doesnt say pro anywhere on the box.... even the invoive has pro on it. are they the right ones, i ordered the spectre pro non led black.

That hardware list looks sweet! They look like normal spectres to me, that's the same box the spectres I use came in and mine aren't the pros.

Liking those Samsung ram sticks

: might not even be able to see them when they go into your system

Just a wee update. I have checked the SKU numbers and they have indeed sent me the wrong fans, the standard spectres are half the price and a casual observer probably would not have noticed. I have sent them a fairly sternly worded message. I'll try and get some pictures up ASAP however i can't really take any nice ones with the SLR as post production on the Laptop is unworkable. so you will get phone shots and then a big gallery at build complete showing all the progress.

OK i contacted Specialtech, i spoke to Adrian, and he shipped the new fans immediately, and sent me a freepost return sticker. so the fans should arrive tomorrow morning. success, the first pictures of the stuff will be tonight.
