i7 to be discontinued.....

This was one of my biggest concerns with the i7 in the face of i5/i3.

If it does turn out to be true, i7 cpu prices will rocket and it's outrageous.

I would accept in terms of sanity, that something like a "Pentium" i7 comes out (not pentium, but u know what I mean).

Nop not BS.

Apparently the new I5 lineup is catching up with the lower value I7 CPU's so get rid of the cheap I7 CPU's and charge a fortune for quicker ones simple business practice tbh.

It was announced months ago in a road map that the life of the i7 would be very short.

I'm glad i didn't splash the cash and upgrade.

i9 is probbably going to be above current extreme cpu prices i imagine....i7 920 is such good value given overclockability and performance for the price hope there is a i9 equivilent

nope its the 32nm Gulftown with no igp just another 2 cores added too the i7 :) and socket 1366 oh and a L3 cache increase of 50%

Ah that's not so bad then, it's probably just Intel's jump to name-branding that's throwing me and a few others.

i9 an advance on i7, i7 being discontinued - doesn't sound like too big a deal.

So it's gonna be 775 being renamed to i3?

i5 is socket 1156, step between core 2 and i7

i7 is extreme only

i9 is hex cores on the same socket as i7

Let me find the chart

whilst AMD is closing in on intel still think it has some way to go...seems like intel consitently keep moving the goal posts there moving to fast for AMD....octo core I9

Yup, have to agree.. We can't just say AMD to take the lead again because we don't like an Intel line-up if they are still superior. AMD still need to catch up a touch and I hope they do.

I'm just waiting for some 32nm dual cores to clock the *******s off to be honest. It's all I want :)

woahhh, i have been out of the game for a while :p

still on my athlon 64 4200+ here :p

last i heard intel was going strong, and amd had no hopes of catching up..

Maybe AMD are catching up and forcing Intel to move on with the releases. Would certainly explain the switch in product.

amd already have there server octo's already out so they beat intel on that front lol, but as bungral already stated i love overclocking so im waiting on the tiny nm dual's

When are these new processors coming out?

What to buy, when to buy, and how long to wait...the only 3 questions stopping my buying a new rig tbh...
