the 3770k is a newer gen part. the 2700k is still a hell of a processor, both are great, 3770k plus a M-power board is what I would push for, but your price limit will have to bump to accomodate all that. Otherwise, I would recommend looking into a 3570K with the same board. Still a great part, and you would be able to only spend somewhere around £20-30 more than what you had originally thought. :)

If you are going to do heavy encoding/rendering, a I7 would be better !
if its only for gaming , a 3570 is more then fine...........

true enough, but if you are looking to stay within a budget, the parts can fit the same socket, upgrading later is possible.

You need cores for rendering; the more the better.

i7, sandybridge i7, or xeon are best. You can't afford that now, but you could save your money for a while.

Doing that would give you more options and allow another intel processor to become available (Haswell).

It's also possible that you could use a GPU to render what you want - some software packages support gpu acceleration of their rendering process.

You specify what you want it for; my advice would be to organise your list into what is most, and what is least important to you.

If they are all about the same, you need a seriously beefy system to do all of those options well. If one takes precedence, then you can optimise your rig for the most important to you.

Its nice to know tho that you have the power there tho even if you are gaming :P
You'll only see a slight improvement in performance with an i7 IF the game you're playing supports hyperthreading though.
A lot of "i5 vs i7 for gaming" reviews and benches have been done before. (Google is your friend.)
It's a 50-50 situation really regarding FPS in games.

Simply put: if you really don't require an i7 for rendering software, you're better off with an i5 budgetwise.
