Yep, atm info says that bulldozer wont work with am3 motherboards

The only foreseeable games i'll be using my computer for is SC2, Diablo3, and unless I really can resist the allure of returning to mmorpgs, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
It sounds like the 930 is the way to go, so I suppose that's what I'll be going with. Here is the spreadsheet of the pieces I'm planning on picking up.

I've selected the Asus P6X58D-E so far... but only because I saw it was in a package deal with NCIX. Are there any suggestions with some technical backbone for which motherboard I should be eying? Something better than "oooo package deal!"
EDIT: The system listed under "Essentials (Splurge). The other one was the comp that i was planning to use with the i5-750, which I haven't totally given up on yet... will come down to difference in price once I figure everything out.

For you maybe.
Since 2008 I have had a Core 2 E4500 and this 940. And tbh? I really have no plans to upgrade it any time soon. Pool my parts? yes. Get the best out of what I have, but a PC should last a good few years before needing to be touched.
Now if he has the bug? yeah man, but seriously I have seen three year old PCs (8800GTX SLI for example) that can still pee with the big boys.
PS. am I the only one who thinks Magny Cours was an April fools joke? Because it certainly was in a mag.

Most games don't even use four cores, so go with an i7.
The X6 chips don't really have a place among the i7s.
The i7 is the better socket. As it is a hex core can only keep up with the i7 if its overclocked. The i7 overclocks further and thus is hte route to go.
Do you need that much RAM dude? I would have thought 6GB is more than enough, unless you run loads of VMs or do loads of poster art editing. In terms of powersupply, avoid OCZ, go for a nice Corsair AX850W , as these look to be the dog's testicles. And that case looks like it has been hit with an ugly train, then beaten some more with an ugly stick. There are probably better cases out there, for similar money. And in terms of coolers, look at the noctua offerings, as the H50 will not keep an i7 overclocked in check.
Look at the extensive reviews on OC3D, but hte big Noctua is the way to go, short of real WCing.

I've never been one to appreciate sleek design with electronics. I like the bulky appearance. I haven't really looked into cases very much yet tbh. The case I have listed, I like the look of but will take some time to look at others before I actually shell out the cash.
Thanks for the advice on the cooling. My friend has the H50 and says its been very reliable so I have it listed as my option. But again, not one of the components I've been looking at very much in depth. Not yet anyway.

Noctua again Im affraid really! If you want quiet that is, otherwise keep an eye open for yate loon or Enermax

Pretty much what Tom said. Noctua fans have a reputation for being very quiet while still pushing a fair bit of air. Unfortunately, this comes at a price, with fans often coming in at upwards of $20 each. Part of the reason why the D14 is considered a great value despite costing more than the majority of heatsinks. If you want to keep costs down, Yate Loons are a fantastic value, costing much closer to $5 a pop.
