I don't have links to my trial and error sections what i ment was, i started from 0 and went my way up,

that's IMO the only good(best) way to learn...

but as mentioned you can always Google(search) "Overclocking i7 870"

I was just playn' around in the bios and I noticed, even if I raise the vCore volts to 1.4v I crash at booting... but then I kept the vCore at 1.3875v (And I know that is high for 4GHz) and I raise the IMC from 1.205 (what the guide said) to 1.3v (0.005...) at a time, I got closer and closer to booting up... now I'm running 4Ghz 20x200 1.3875v IMC 1.3v... we'll see the results in 3h or so

EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot to mention... I'll try to lower the volts on vCore but I think I'll get a FATAL ERROR in prime95 like before... so what do I do.. do I raise/lower the vCore volts or IMC?

I guess Tom won't anwser to that, cuz he thinks I have to learn that by myself (the greatest teacher!!

)

I can't go under 1.385v @ 4GHz without a FATAL ERROR

IMC still 1.3v (I tried to raise it but it didn't effect nothing)

Also tried raising PPL but I didn't get into windows, so I left it on auto... (it should be 1.79v when on auto so...)

If they are 1.6v 1600mhz @ stock and thats what they are running at then no.

Crap! Sry for the bad word but I can't find a way to make my 4GHz OC stable enough... well, I'm not testing right now, just gonna let it rest till 2morrow.

And I'm getting a D14, hopefully next week

So I'll have more room to OC... OCCT went to 85°C in like 2min and it stoped cuz I set that for the limit =/

With prime95... well it goes to 77°C when doing the '8000k' or whats it called, ('517k or something passed' then ther is '700k passed', than 8000k FAIL BSOD) Correct me if I got the numbers wrong

And I just realized something, I have a LOT to learn, and I can't wait for it!!

As TT states it's a little bit of an art OCing. I spent a ton of time on the web as well as youtube. However, there seems to be a problem with terms for MB's. Not all MB manufacturers have the settings in the same place nor do they always call out the voltage settings the same way. You may want to be sure that you isolate different things out of the loop before OCing. Try setting your memory speed to a low setting and focus on getting the OC for CPU stable. Then you can add the memory back later. I have an i7-860 and can easily OC to 4 MHz. I don't push the rig any faster because of the heat. I'm utilizing a Corsair H50. It's great up to a point. Now I wish I had seen the Noctua when I was ordering the CPU heat sink.

I was working my way up to 4GHz with a lower RAM setting... then I just kept the 4GHz an added the ram speed in...

Tom: I set the ram to 1.65v before I asked if it'd be more stable... you said no... but amazingly, while I was in the shower, I let prime95 do his work and it hasn't crashed in 40min now... when I had ramV set to 1.6 it crashed like 5-10min in... Sooo I guess ram voltage does it

Now I'm at 4GHz @ 1.4v 81°C max, IMC is jumping from 1.35-1.39 in EVERSET Ultimate, I set it to 1.3375v and ram is at 1.65v, PPL 1.79v, what else?

Ohh and I know it's a little hot and giving it a lot of juice but I'm working my way down, so I get the limit where I'll stay.

And I know I'm a retard, I just know you guys are thinking that in your mind

And the numbers in prime are: 512k passed and 8k passed. Sry =/

If I go any lower, prime will detect a FATAL ERROR! So I guess I'll have to work a little bit more with the voltages to get that magic 1.35v

You guys said, every CPU is different... so I guess mine is powerhungry

So I left prime running while I went to school and there is no errors and no crashes so far, running for 2h and a half. I'll try to lower the volts next

try 1.4v and if that works try lowering it in increments of 0.05v until it becomes unstable

Tried pushing it to 4.2GHz but just when I log into windows it crashes... tried raising the PPL but it didn't help

I need a specialist to help me with this, someone like Tom!! That would be nice
