i5 sandy bridge any difference

excuse my stupidity but the different versions of i5 sandy bridge are only the clock speed? or am I miss some thing else? obv I kno the 2500k has better graphics and better over clocking.

So some one who isnt over clocking or playing very demanding games and on a budget could go with say a 2310?....Just I was gonna go with a i3 but seen that the lowest i5 is only £40 more would seem more value for money than the i3

If your not going to oc, and not going for 80 fps on mw3 then the cheapest i5 will be perfect for you.

But from £40 to £60 is only £20 more, and you can overclock the snot out of it, better resale value, better performance. I think if you are comtemplating spending the extra £40 you may as well save for an extra week and get the 2500K.

just usual pc task basic gaming...Basic video/pic editing only hardcore stuff Im doing at the moment is making my own linux os that Im currently doing on a amd x2 setup....I should state I already have a gaming pc with a i5 2500k , just building a itx

hoping to run a silverstone sg05 300w, i5, 6770 just want a smaller system that I can do all my linux stuff on and plug upto the tv when the gf is on the gaming pc....Just sold all my old pc stuff to build the itx system.

Guess if you don't plan on overclocking at all cheaper i5 will do, but depends if want an option to clock it up a bit. Still a fast chip without clocking.

Id make sure that 300w is sufficient for a 6770, i just built a system with a 6770 and Visontek claimed that their 6770 requires a 500w PSU. Just food for thought.

Maybe you should check out AMD's Fusion apu's? They got better integrated graphics and they can also run with a dedicated graphics crad in crossfire. They are power efficient aswell.

One more tip. Look up the 65w SB cpu's. They are pretty nice and low heat/power consumption. 2405S, 2400s, 2500S, 2600S.

A 6770 has 1 x 6 pin connector and the pci connector, each of which will supply 75W - the maximum that a stock 6770 will draw from your system is 150W. That combined with a 2500K @ 95W will easily run off of a 300W PSU.
