Hey guys,

I'm looking to overclock my i5, i have never overclocked before so im not really sure on what to do. Currently i am using the OC Genie overclock on it

but the voltage is too high for my likings. (3.8ghz w/ 1.392 volts. http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1612906 )

I dont know where to begin, but i do know my way around the bios. What settings should i be looking at for a 3.8ghz clock?

I have a Hyper 212+ w/ push/pull config, Corsair 4gb 1600mhz ram, MSI GD85 and the lancool k62.

Cheers.

I'm noob with this

Hey dude just wondering have you recorded temps on idle and load at that speed already? Also what PSU are you using for this overclock? Now, "to not fully" answer your question, I don't use OC genie so I got no idea why. I just used the Bios to overclock my i5-760 @3.593GHz and I was using about 1.312V but the voltage was set by my mobo (Asus-P7P55D-e) I was happy with the overclock but I think my temps were ridiculous high with my highest temp on 1 core reaching 79C. So I took off overclock. Make sure your temps are low before even thinking of overclock!

All I can tell you is go in your Bios and have a look around...but don't change anything unless you are sure you know what your doing. To get 3.8GHz a 1.392V sounds about right for an i5 760 although I've seen online forums where guyz get something like this...1.2V for 3.96GHz [22*180]

Regards Tiz

(Edit: Will overclock quickly and screenprint my voltage levels for you.)

Hi,

That voltage is right for that processor and MSI does overvolt a little I've heard. My i5 750 is 3.8Ghz with 1.35 - 1.45 for 4Ghz. I haven't tried lowering Volts yet I'm learning. ASUS auto OC sets it at 3.7Ghz with between 1.3 - 1.4Volts.

on that Intel data the i5 760 VID is up to 1.4Volts. For overclocking expect to go higher

This info:

The VID of your CPU is the default vcore your CPU needs in order to run at stock to run Intel’s standards for stability on any non-faulty motherboard. Some people have found that they can undervolt below their VID to still run at Stock speeds without failing stability tests. However, I highly discourage this on practice on low-end motherboards.

is from: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/665362-vid-voltage-identification-explained.html

There's alot of stuff to turn of in the BIOS for overclocking stability

This is a goos stability tester: http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download

Be careful with it, it's powerful. You can adjust its settings. If you want help fo BIOS and OCCT post the question.

right now this is my settings. 200x19 = 3.8Ghz:

at 3.7Ghz with between 1.3 - 1.4Volts.

Hey dude nice to hear from you again, just overclock and changed voltage myself instead of letting my motherboard over shoot the voltage...just got 4GHz using [22x200] using just 1.25 volts was unexpected and also it lowered my heat haha...so I'll keep it at this voltage and frequancy (Too bad my RAM sucks for overclocking its only 1333MHz

)

Will still need help though...not sure if for this RAM this overclock will be very helpful for instance is it worth it when my RAM sucks so much and other questions etc.

Anyway peace hope this helped.

hi,

I got it at 4.1Ghz now. Crysis is awesome like this. temps max on 1 core 72 degrees , the others about 65 Degrees C. Its 21 x 194, 1.4625 Volts, not tried lowering. Core temp shows up to 80 probably when level loading though in-game it was 72 max I saw
