i have an Intel i5 760 that is compatible for up to 1333mhz RAM and an Asus p7h55m motherboard that supports up to 2200mhz. if i combine them will the cpu accept the 1600 ram or do i have to oc it?

That's true. As for every actual Intel platform, you will need to manually set numbers for 1600+ speed. Just go to the BIOS and set everything just like the RAM says (Timings, speed, voltage).

I wish.....

I tried setting mine up to run 1600 and my rig has random lockup's. If I set the memory back to auto. No problems. I've tried numerous ways of setting it up to the rated 1600 with no success. Any suggestions?

i7-860 Running @ 3.9 MHz

CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M2A1600C9

ASUS P7P55D Deluxe LGA 1156

Did you put the voltage that the manufacturer said? putting the timings, speed and voltage should make no problems with it. You can get the full timings in Corsair's website I guess.

Loosen the timings? Make sure you are running at the right volts.

I set the timings to the proper settings (8-8-8-24) and raised the DRAM volts to 1.65 per manufacturers recommendations. Still no luck. It seems when I leave the rig alone for a while I can't get it to allow me to do anything. Also, I tried other timing settings to no avail. Sometimes it comes back after a while. I don't have hibernation enabled and when I set the RAM settings back to auto the problems go away.

I've tried trolling corsairs web site but have not seen any helpful suggestions. Seems that it may be a ASUS compatibility problem with corsair ram.

Well it looks like i stumbled across the fix. Seems if I set the PC up using XMP it allows me to set up the correct timings and speed for the RAM. I had to make some adjustments to the BCLK and CPU ratio as well as set up some voltages but the system seems to be stable. Corsair wasn't any help. I stumbled across the possible fix by googling and it was in a review of the RAM.

Thanks all for the suggestions.....
