So. I was installing a Bit Defender update. Suddenly...BSOD.

Ok...so...restart. Can't get to windows...something to do with trufos.sys

I am using the browser built into Bit Defender that allows to do it from the bios...handy. Googling, it shows trufos...is a Bit Defender file...the issue that caused this.

I had my Copy of W7 on a USB Drive, which I sadly erased to help a friend out...recently and haven't replaced. I've tried safe mode and such, but it appears to be a o go. Nothing I can do, but obtain another Copy of W7 and try to do a repair install? This is so frustrating, my own AV...causing this problem. Being able to use the net, I suppose, is a blessing, considering my Windows doesn't work...but still...

I can't see anyway to fix it from here, but perhaps someone knows?

Have you tried using a bootable diagnostics disk like Hirens? to manually remove and reinstall the affected file? You could also have a look at repairing the registry too. Trufos.sys is usually located in the system32 folder.

With a diagnostic boot disk you don't boot into your native windows, it uses a lite version of it's own which allows you access to your native OS and registry to do what you need to do.

Yes, I know that - but I don't have one. The only way I could get one is by downloading and burning it - something I can't do since I can't get into Windows.

Guess I'll be going over my friends tomorrow to pick up another copy of W7 from him to try repair mode. It was funny, really, just a few weeks ago, I wiped the USB drive of my W7 copy to put some friends files on it, thinking "Eh, I'll remember to download another copy to it." of course not, lol.
