Hi all i am looking for a nvidea based card that i can do 3d surround with. i know i need sli for it to work or to have the double gpu series cards such as the 690 and so on.

what my big question is either a 690 two 680s or two 670. i am looking for best for money in this range. any advice is appreciated.

I am not taking amd cards into account at this time due to Personal preference.

670 SLI. Not really any point in getting 680s. There's next to no difference between the 670 and 680, so you may as well just save yourself money.

3D surround though? As in triple screen 3D?

What monitors are you using? And do you really need this...?

The tech behind it is nvidea 3d surround but im not a fan of 3d the only reason for this is the triple screen gaming. if i dident want the triple screen gaming i would use a 680.

you do make a good point about the 670 performance and i think thats what ill be going with in the end.

Thanks

i am using the asus ve248h 24 inch monitors. the 4gb version from my suppler are 500 AUD each so for another 100 on top of both i could get a 690 so it will be dependent on price at the time of purchase.

Note i am not getting these cards soon this is just homework. although i do have the monitors but im running on a gtx 450 witch has been an impressive performer for its age.

Well I have to say, you may be better off getting an AMD 7970 or 7950.

I use a single 2gb 670 over 3 screens. It runs fine at medium settings - but I'm unsure whether if I put the settings up on BF3 for example pulls frame rates down because of lack of vRAM or GPU power (or both). I'm going SLI so that will show which the problem is. But I'd still try to get a card with higher RAM if possible.

I'd go with the 3GB 7950 x2 option. Eyefinity seems to be better than surround.

I'm currently running tripplemonitor with 7970 CF and the performance and benchmarks are awsome but when it comes to playing games i really do notice the "Microstuttering" that AMD tend to have in dual card configs. I do regret my second 7970 and it's even at the level that i will actually sell the cards off and get a pair of 670s here are two graphs (in swidish unfortunally enough) but they basically shows the microstutter on 680s respectively 7970

Even though people are stating that you can get rid of "MS" by using different programs such as radeon pro it's not worth the extra time spent on searching for fixes in my opinion, and i've tried almost every fix on the interwebs without any luck! so if he is planning on buying new cards i would say go for NVidia! there is a very small performance difference and that difference can be in either cards favour according what the game is.

And to answer OP's question: look at theese numbers: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/598?vs=555 there is almost no difference at all betwene the 680 and 670 but the price, so 670s will probably be a better choice. also the difference will be even smaller in SLI!

670/680 (no point looking lower) support 3d surround on a single card (pants frames though)

NV cheap option: 1155 platform 2 x 670 2gb
NV best option: 2011 platform, 3 x 680 4gb

I say 680s because I'm not sure if there's any 4gb 670s with a non-ref cooler on them and the ref one is obnoxious.
No point going 4gb unless you have 3 cores to utilize it.

AMD 7950 CF spanks 680 SLI @ 3x1080p for reference.
