I fancy a new mobile...

Right my phone (Samsung G600?!) is boring me and since I spilt a lovely red over it, it's not working properly.

So I want a new one. I have 8 month left on my contract so I'l lhave to buy one of contract.

I saw the iphone nano and it looks ideal; I want a small phone, as small and thin and light as possible.

Features can kiss my bum cheeks. Calls and texts are all I need, I have an ipod for music and a decent camera for pictures

So with that in mind what is out there that is good?

TYIA :)

I currently own the SE W890i. While it is small and thin and light, it is naff for texting as the buttons are too small. Couple this with a terribly slow operating system (think writing texts faster than the phone can comprehend, and then catching up with you, only to make about 5 mistakes) and you've got a pretty frustrating bit of kit.

It does have a few tidy features, namely ths music and 2gig M2 card that comes with it, but you have an iPod, so no need for that.

Yeah, all in all, i'd say stay away from the SE W890i.

Maybe look at the old K800i? I used to have one, and it was pretty sharp.

Cheers Wigs,

I liked the look of that phone and the old man has it, we both have big hands but he says it's fine. The OS might be a problem but gone are the days of my speed texting lol, so it might be alright.

Also battery life is important

Edit: The k800 is MASSIVE!

A phone can have a camera, can have an mp3 player and they can be crap because I'll never use them. Small, thin and good battery

All these Samsung have the same problems and never change.

Check out the E71 (Which you will defo say no to)

Look @ the Sony Ericsson W890i and the new anticipated Nokia N96 (To be released this month)

BTW if you are so into calls and text go for a normal Black&White Screen phone. Costs only £10

I'll point blank refuse any bulky phone.

B&W screen? Are you kidding me?

Doesn't anyone make luxury phones anymore that do nothing but be a phone and look good? I.E small and light?

Remember the 8210? I go tthat when it came out and as far as I'm concerned it was the best phone ever! Isn't there one like that but nicer?

Depends on how much you wanna spend. I've had a Nokia Sirrocco which was a basic but nice phone. Can pick them up on ebay fairly reasonable now too:

Or the new luna is also nice:

nokia 6500, non-slide

i saw one today in currys, its like...super thin, and amazing

and nokia's are always easy to use, nice to look at, and packed with features, want them or not..

Metal Back (Titanium I think)

I know somebody who has that and it looks better real life than in the photos

I had a U600 and whilst it looked awesome and felt cool it was a little bit slow and the UI was pretty clunky (even just for texts/phone calls). Nokia always make nice phones and LG's look very nice too.

That E71 looks a little bit big for what is needed imo

I should have mentioned this earlier.. But its only hard to text when i cut my nails. If they're a little longer, then its easier to hit the buttons, but when i cut my fingernails, it gets tricky and pad-mashing ensues. I rarely write a text message that doesn't have at least one mid-word / out of place capital letter. All depends on which part of the thumb you use to tap the buttons.

It is a nice looking phone mind, and pretty solid too. It's metal case really does stand up to the knocks. I'm far from careful with mine - might explain the slow OS.. hah..

The back panel retention clips are tidy too.

e. Battery is pretty decent. I left it playing Ricky Gervais podcasts almost all of my shift yesterday (~6 hours) at full volume, and there was still a day or so's worth of stand-by battery left on it.

Maybe i was a bit harsh on it earlier. It's got its good and bad features, just like anything really.

Alright peeps.

I'm still on the hunt for a phone. I almost signed up a new contract at p4u as they offered me £100 buy-out on my existing orange contract and just upgrade my old voda contract to 900 mins, unltd text, unltd internet and unltd mp3 d/l for £45 a month with any phone I want.

In my mind I figure there are only a couple of phones I want:

Samsung Tocca

Sony Erricson w890i

Samsung U800

Samsung Omnia i900 (like the iphone but better)

I looked at the tocca and I liked the look of it. It's small, it's light. After playing with it I found it almost impossible to text on. I have big hands and naturally big thumbs. As it is a small touch screen too much of my thumb was making contact so the phone misread what I was trying to press. If I can't text sober what chance do I have when I'm intoxicated? I might go back for another play but it might be out of the running already.

w890i - small light, does the job. I'd get more money on the buy-out. Only downer is it is a little dull. (I know, I said I want a basic phone!)

u800 - wasn't in the shop. Has the small light thing going for it, newer than the w890i...

i900 - wasn't in the shop. like the iphone but better according to reviews. Depending on how large and heavy it feels i may/may not get it.

The luxury nokias are too thick and heavy...
