Not worth it. Every time a bird flys by your dish your connection will drop ;).

Satellite is pure shit....

You can get either 1way or 2way sat connection. 1way = downstream is sat, upstream is dialup, etc. 2way = upstream/downstream is all through the satellite system but you can't play online games because it simply takes to long for a sat connection to relay your games, etc... you CAN play but you'll have a 1839792839ms ping :p

even though you have like 6mbps dnload speed

the rate at which you send/receive is completely different from the amount of time it takes for the server to acknowledge the request.

Yerp.

by the time your net goes from the game server, to 45321654213 million mile away satellite in space, then back 9465165421 miles to earth into your dish into your comp, well, thats a long time.

A buddy of mine's father was selected to test out a Satellite ISP. He didn't have to pay for it, and for webbrowsing and downloading it was fine (when the weather was good...rain or snow...not so good)...but he couldn't play games on it. We tried playing Civilizations 3....that's TURN BASED gaming....and it was SO LAGGY....I can't imagine how a RTS or let alone an FPS would run. When he moved to his new house he had the option of getting the Satellite again or paying for Dial-up....he decided to pay for dial-up....what does that tell you?

Of course he upgraded to DSL....and now that Verizon is only chargin $15 a month for DSL, dial-up will soon be a thing of the past.

Yeah that would blow ur connection away... I still can't believe they have a bandwidth usage alotment for each month, that's fucking absurd.

Almost all of the UK's (big and n00b) ISP's have bandwidth limit.

Mine doesn't though :bootyshak

my ISP doesnt kemp, infact blueyonder is actualy the best cable isp, and one of the very best overall ISP's.

Yeah but I didn't count BlueYonder. And I agree they're one of the best ISP's. I aint got a cable modem though so they were not an option :(

the reasons thye made limits are various

1. The connections are not dedicated i.e. 1mbps is shared by 20 ppl

2. They just upgraded (december 04) from 128 Kbps to 256 k and there hardware isnt good enough to support all the load

3. Malta has only one fibre optic wire which goes to palermo so all maltas load has to pass through 1 wire

4 Many ppl were dnloading al the time and so it used to affect other peeps in the shared 1 mbps

5 There is only one backbone who owns the connection to italy(DataStream)

and we have around 15 ISPs the one i have is the best dsl (4 gb) the rest are 3 or 2 gb limit.

6 The cable ISP is onvol and you would never know what back bone it uses? Data stream so that puts more load on DataStream = cant cope with all the rest so they make the Isp s pay more for the data which they have to pass through the cable (another equation)=Isp s impose limits so they wont go bankrupt paying for their data and if you want more overseas dnloading it is LM2.00 per gb.

In £ 6.8 per gb

$ 7.3 per gb

satellite is TRULY a last resort for people who cant get broadband... its not real broadband in any way... dont get it.... try optimizing your connection with tcp optimizer.. and do what i did... bitch at your cable company daily... i did... magically after the 5th tech visit in two weeks my connection opened up :) ... what i use is the fact that i could only upload at 12k to one person... now its 25-30 k... but on a torrent i can upload 120kbps... versus the 30 that it was... when they realize that you are a customer that will make their life hell till they give you what you pay for... they will uncap your net... its not a bad business practice... i like that they cheat people because that keeps the net working well for us who actually need it...

ouch your not in america... hmmm i dont know about net over there... we are relatively advanced here... out wired networking that is... we are really low on the list of wirelessly connected countries... good luck.. but dont get satellite.. seriously
