Hi guys

Trying to install the above printer it keeps throwing a windows error of "Cannot install hardware" "The specified environment is invalid".

Does this even after wiping all traces of HP off the computer. The cable works fine with a different printer also.

Basically you run the HP installer (both off the disk or latest driver off the net) and it gets to the part where it detects the printer/tells you to turn it on and windows detects it - then throws that error!

argh

does the same when you manually search for the driver file too - this is on xp x32.

i'm at a loss and probably gonna try a format/reinstall

We have HP printers at work.

If you set one as your default printer MS Office programs.... Word,

Excel etc will crash randomly.

Default to a non HP one and its fine.

Have you tried letting Windows use sys default drivers and not those supplied by HP at all.

Biggest issue with these printers (from anywhere) is that people plug them in b4 installing drivers.

From that point windows bluffs some stuff, not just drivers, and from that point u can be screwed. Good luck from there on in. Hopefully u can try using another usb port when the software asks u, and it may work.

Uninstalling the drivers windows' uses doesn't always work. Need like a driver cleaning thingy for printers.

Vista has a good go at installing drivers for them when u don't use the cd first. Bit hit and miss tho.
