Hey guys

I saw it mentioned in another thread that somebody had all their friends family etc. setup on a VNC server for remote assistance help etc.

How easy is this to setup? Anybody mind pointing me to a guide or telling me themselves? Sounds a great idea!

There's 2 types of remote support.

1. Where the server is always installed on the client machine, meaning you can log in whenever. (useful if your going to be supporting that client all the time). Some options for the are the VNC versions, logmein.com free account.

2. A sort of on-the-fly approach, this is where the client downloads a small file and runs it. Clicks allow and then you can control from your end. (Useful is your supporting random people) UltraVNC SC, logmein.com rescue.

I'd suggest opening a trial account with logmein.com rescue. although this version isnt free.

I've been playing with UltraVNC SC recently, you can put your own logo on ect. http://www.uvnc.com/addons/singleclick.html

Hope this helps,

Nath

Logmein rescue is certainly not free!! After the two week trial they wanted £700 off me.....your better off using the free ones or following the guide posted above somewhere

It's not a rip off, its the normal price for enterprise remote support.

Yep... its not too hard scripting one yourself but to pay that amount for something that you can do yourself is fairly ridiculous

Logmein is fine to use as remote desktop assistance , i use it for a lot of clients machines.

Whenever they have problems, upgrades and the like it always gets installed with their authorisation.

Saves loads of time and its free.. cant be bad.

Also great for logging in to my workshop whilst else where and checking my webcam etc.. Fantastic piece of free software.

I can't remember the port exactly I remember it consisted of Winsock and inet, few APIs from planetsourcecode. Was a joint project with friends from college :D.

I'll try dig it out when I go back to college.
