Hi I am trying to help a friend to overclock his CPU (Q6600 G0 SLACR ) on his system.

can anyone help I am new to overclocking (well I did it about 10 years ago with jumpers and the like on the MB but not since)?

The hardware is:

EVGA 650i Ultra

Q6600 G0 SLACR Intel Core 2 Quad-Core

4 x 1gb PC5400 ram (Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-5400 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12)

Zalman CNPS9700-LED Aero Flower Cooler

Silver Power 600w PSU

512MB Gainward 8800GT Bliss Golden Sample, PCI-E 2.0, 1900MHz, GDDR3, GPU 650MHz, 2x Dual Link DVI-I

(it's a duel boot system)

TIA

its all in the bios :)

id first off try setting the FSB to 333, and the vcore to 1.3v. that should easily get you upto 3ghz

I just been into BIOS under "system voltages" i have the options

CPU core - 1.21v

CPU FSB - 1.20v

Memory - 1.83v

nforce SPP - 1.20v

I am unsure which ones i should change also i have no option of changing FSB to 333 as you said. I presume V core is the CPU CORE in my BIOS

Well if its anything like my BIOS for the nvidia board you'll have to change the motherboard FSB from 1066 to 1334.

Then what I have to do is put the CPU voltage to about 1.34, since it actually gives lower then what you tell it to, but after you reboot it should say what its actually at, then FSB voltage and nforce SPP voltage to 1.4volts.

Thats what I do anyway :D

I am having trouble clocking a Q6600 G0 on a Nvidia chipset.

I have come to the conlcusion that the chipset just doesn't like to take it past 3Ghz.

Just be aware of that matey. ;)

yeah, the 680i chips never really liked quads, even the new revision boards that were meant to be better for quads.

Really does suck.. got my new chip thinking wow can overclock this monster and then finding I can't.. a little annoying.

Especially seeing as I got my E6400 to 3.6Ghz on the same board. Oh well!

Hello All,

Thanks

you guys make it sound so easy! lol. but really, i think i need a little help overclocking if you don't mind.

this is my first system i just built:

nvidia p5n-t delux 780i

intel q6600

8gb of g.skill pc2-8000

2x500gb raid1 hdd

nvidia quadro 4600, for rendering

zalman 9700 heat sink and fan

can't think of anything else you might need to know at the moment. so, teach me! lol. really though, i have read and read, but it seems to vary so specifically to each computer, has anyone done a setup similar to mine?

right now, i just wondered if anyone had some sure-fire settings that would get me around 3.2 or 3.3ghz?

i'd much appreciate any help. i'm sure you guys get bored of hearing the same story over and over, but i'm trying:) thanks
