Well...turns out my problem hasnt totally gone away, but with those services disabled, my GPU couldnt handle a load. Might be a driver issue in part as well though.
Interesting, going from memory (the page has gone now) but black viper said it was ok to disable it but I could be wrong. Also it is generally best to change services fro services.msc rather than msconfig.
