How to install programs onto a second drive

Hi all,

Ive recently built my first pc and i currently have a 64gb ssd that just has windows on it and I was wondering how to install programs onto my 2tb hard drive.

At the moment when I open up the hard drive from the computer tab in the menu bar its just got nothing in it.

Any advice would be greatly received

When you install there should be an option for a custom install or a regular install, if you choose custom it will let you select where you want to install it, just choose your 2TB HDD and it will install to that.

Most installers let you choose the directory to install to without a custom install though so just slect your 2TB drive like you would with a custom install. You can also just copy the folder it installs to, paste it onto your 2TB drive, delete the folder on your c:\ drive and then just change the shortcut to the one in the folder you copied onto your 2TB drive.

I installed the 2tb hard drive fine. Just when i tried to install some software to it a message came up saying unable to select location and would only let me install things to the c drive (my ssd)

I was just wondering if there was a step i had missed out or something

I agree to that but it's still not an answer to his question

ok ill agree to that but he never installed a game? OS!!!! even bloody os has the option to install on selected drive, i just dont understand the guy either hes just bored and deicded to post pointless question or he really shoul just go back to his mac

what are you installing? is the hdd accessible? can you put stuff on it? try format to ntfs if it isnt aleady

Well i was just going to install BF3 to it

and the 2tb hard drive is accessible and ive created a Video folder in there and i can move files to it.

Just cant seem to install a game to it.

Oh and its already set to ntfs

and i know i don't know a lot about the software side of computers but thats why i decided to build one because i wanted to go through problems like these and hopefully overcome them (with some help) and learn something while doing it.

You just need to change the directories see pic bellow.

ahhh eith bf3 its slighlty diffrent, do you download or dvd install? if download from origin then, open origin, settings, then change the downlaoded games directory to the 2tb drive, and have a new folder something like games or origin etc. it will install all downloaded games in that directory

if dvd, it will ask you to choose where to install, which is more convenient as you can create your directories for games

Yeah it was from origin because i got a free copy of bf3 with it

And as soon as i created a games folder it was fine.
