Hey guys just wondered i would setup a solid state disk as a primary boot disk for vista and a normal 1tb hardrive as a slave just to put folders on. Both would be SATA and it would be like a new install, installing vista. just want vista on the SSD.

Would vista ask me which drive i would like to install on etc.

Anyone be so kind as to kind of do it step by step. And would i need to format my new hardrive. cheers muchly

When you boot up from the Vista disc, it will allow you to select which drive you want to install Vista on.

Once installed, you can do whatever you want with the second drive. It will be accessible through "Computer" just like and DVD/CD Drive.

If the second disk doesn't show up in computer then go into administration and disk tools and you can format it in there

Or just unplug the hard drive sata cable while you install Vista on the SSD and plug it back in after the installation completes (this should also ensure that no boot files are accidentally placed on the HDD)

After installing Vista, to save space on the SSD, you could also change the default installation path for application setups.

In Regedit, the path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\

has the registry strings for "ProgramFilesDir" (and "ProgramFilesDir (x86)" on an x64 OS)

Yeah that's what I tend to do actually if I'm unsure on disks etc
