I was using a 26'' LCD TV, but that's no resolution to be proud of

Honestly, the viewing angles actually aren't that bad. When you look at an angle, the far side only darkens minorly. At a very extreme angle from the side, I'm still able to read this post. Same for an extreme angle from the top (though in this case, the colors just become a bit washed out). As for the backlight bleed, for mine it's very minor. Just a bit along the top and bottom. I don't notice it at all really. I suppose in a game like FEAR it could be noticeable, but in BF2 and CSS it's just fine.
