HL2.exe has encountered an error 0.o

Yep, just sorted my bad fps now this happens. Everytime I join a server (CSS) - it loads everything, downloads any sounds. Great its going to work...BOOM. Before the server gets a chance to show itself this error message pops up and all I get to help me is MS telling me to send an error report. Great (Y) pfff.

I have deleted css, uninstalled steam, removed any traces then reinstalled both steam and css and ran it all at stock settings (both steam and my overclock) and its still bggered.

This is probably related but now Xfire won't start - as in it just gives me an Xfire Exception telling me to upload the problem, closing xfire in the process. ARGH

I have been tweaking around recently but nothing major. Just a batch file executed at shutdown to delete temp windows files and some reg files off equk's site to disable some services and the other stuff. Is there any commands in there that may cause this? It was fine when I was lanning at a buds house before :o :(

I had a similar problem with the ati 7.1 drivers :( css kept crashing randomly (on connect to certain servers, 10mins into game etc) and when it did work specular was always enabled no matter what you set it to in the cfg :(

I ended up re-installing windows as for some reason, no matter what I did with drivers (older ones) it wouldn't work :( I'm on the 7.2's now and am not having any problems so far :)
 
Ahh im on 7.3 atm but its just recently i havent been able to start css servers at all. Theres nothin in ur reg tweaks is there equk that might do this? I might run a memtest86+ tonight

@ Ham yes but only for an hour iirc

Maybe it's the 7.3 drivers if you changed to them recently & the problems also started recently :confused:

There shouldn't be anything in my reg files that would cause crashes in cs:s etc
 
I will be using my 2x 320gb in Raid0 as primary once i order them so that will be a fresh install - ill copy what i want off my 200gb and then use the 200gb as a external storage/backup in my icybox but till then (wednesday hopefully ordering) im just confuzzled as to wtf is going on...got a ED match wednesday too :eek:

will memtest overnight
 
Hmm, is there any clues in the error message? theres often a DLL name or something. If its the cat drivers you could try the omegas.
 
Ran memtest for 10 hours with no errors. Think i may try the omegas as they worked nicely on my sempy rig.

With the xfire crash its just says
get.php


and the hl2.exe error shows this then closes to desktop

I think you are really best to try a format or repair on your install as that will clear anything you've tweaked that has screwed it up
 
its xfire its crashing allot of games at the moment just turn it off and the crashes should go away i had the same problem
 
Xfire wont even open for me man - it just crashes instantly when i try to open it ^^ check 1st screen

Ill do a repair tonight (Y)
 
I got that problem. I soon fixed it after a couple of magnets to the hard drive :)

Thats how i fix all my problems :)
 
lol dan you faglet - have u shown everyone your make shift chipset cooler yet? :p

Ill give them a clue...plastic bottle + fan...ill let this gimp tell you the rest ^^
