hitting 4.2 ghz with 478 p4

I have a socket 478 p4 runnign at 2.8 ghz (with 533mhz fsb). If i peltier cooled it with a 226 watt peltier (that is in turn watercooled), would i be able to get it to 4.2ghz. I did a calculation and found that ddr400 memory would be alright, due to my low fsb. (im running pc2700 ram at the moment. If i stuck a load of fans in the case and overvolted the cpu and chipset, would i be able to reach 4ghz?

It's not really a case of if you cool it enough it WILL go, it's more of a case of the chip itself. I had a 3.4Ghz Extreme Edition a while back thinking I'd get at least 4.5-4.6Ghz outa it as that's wat most others wer getting. I could barely get it stable at 4.3Ghz, and that's with phase cooling and overvolting like a nutter.

What mobo you running it on? That plays a big part in it aswell. I had about 3 boards with 1 CPU and some of them were just absolutely pants.

Thicky will be able to answer this better.

I know 1 thing, you will need monster watercooling to tame a 2.8 at 4.0 and 226w pelt.I personally think its highly inlikely, but good luck and have fun trying, thats the main thing.

Get yourself a single stage cooler from Phill, don't wast you cash on water, i can tell you as i run water cooling, it will only go so far and thats it, but with a good single stage cooler, from Extreme there be no stopping you, but it all depends on if you have got a good chip or not as some clock better than others

What's a single state cooler? (is it a standard cooler with a fan?) and who, or what, is Phill? I thought about getting a phase-change system, but then I looked at the price. I may try and overclock it with an arctic cooling air cooler to see how far it goes on that, before i go and spend a lot of cash (as shown in the moolah money screensaver from www.uselesscreations.com)

Thanks for all the help!

Single state cooler is phase change i think

and who's Phil??

This is his forum he's the big man himself!!!!

Ah - ok. I know know who phil is (sry phill). I might try and use some good air cooling (arctic cooling heatsink) with two vantec tornado fans. Ill see what i can do with that then decide where to go from then on.

Thanks
