High Quality Coolant?

Sooooo,

I'm about to do a coolant change to come in line with the new color scheme of my Rig. I was going to go out and get me some Mayhems but some prominent members of our community have told me mayhems isn't the Bee's knees like I thought it was.

I've seen TTL recommend mayhems in vids of his before as well as other prominent members recommend it. So naturally this hase caught between a rock and hard place as I respect the opinion of all involved but now I don't know what coolant is the best.

So guy's what do you think is the best? And why?

Mayhems? Other? Double Distilled Water?
 
The quality of Mayhems depends on which product line you're looking at.

The Aurora and Pastel are the ones people say you should avoid. Aurora isn't intended for long term use, and instead is intended for short term showcase rigs because the suspended particles in it get deposited in your loop over time and can clog things.

People recommend against Pastel because it's said to discolour over time (notably in TTL's Orca rig).

I use X1 (Blue) and I've had no problems with discolouration or staining, and the colour is nice and vivid, so I would recommend that.

I hope Tom see's this and add his 2 cents. If I remember correctly it was an older vid where he recommended Mayhems. I wonder if his opinion has since changed with the discoloration of ORCA.
 
Feser One, Feser F1, EK Premix are the 3 I'd put my vote in for.

I've had Feser one in a system for over 4 years once, not a spec of growth, no clogging, and no loss in performance. It even sat still for around 3 months of no usage and it was still fine.

Currently using Feser clear none uv reactive in my current build and as usual, it just works :)

For long-term builds, steer well clear of the fancy pastel or aurora coolants from mayhems, they're the problematic ones. Aurora for depositing stuff in your loop, and pastel for doing that and leeching your (food industry grade) tubing and ruining itself in the process.

I have no experience with their straight coolants, but I don't really trust them as a company at this point, seen too many horror stories to be honest.
 
I've heard good things about XSPC EC6 too if anything slightly more positive than EK so I was considering that. Still can't decide between clear and blood red.

Well I'm using XSPC's E6 coolant at the moment (UV blue), would be happy to let you know how it goes when I do a tear down in 6 months ;P

Also EKs premixed coolant is great, had it running my old loop for about a year and nothing happened, no gunk or anything inside components. This was the UV blue one.
 
I dont want to start any rows, everything here is public and my stuff gets twisted a lot!

I did have problems with Orca coolant - did it put me off Mayhems coolant as a whole? Im really not sure but I think I would look into other ways of doing things and see if the design worked out. I could have just been unlucky but the biggest problem was the way they went about dealing with it. I kept it all quiet because its a UK company and the owner can be a really sound bloke. I personally think he was going through some shit at the time and just had a stroke or something because what he did made no sense.

But anyways - coolant is easy to change and cheap so if it goes tits up - flush and replace. Simple.

Yea I fully understand that my man.

And yes out of everything coolant is probably the cheapest item. I just wanted to get some opinions as things had become conflicted.
Might check out what Feser has to offer as Sub has suggested.

Just having a look around and im thinking maybe just going double distilled water (with biocide and anti-corrosion) and dying it to the color I want, Do the dyes mess with the conductivity of the water? And since its a dye should I expect staining? What brand dyes have the best rep?

EKs coolant is produced by Mayhems, scroll down on the EK site. So it's the same as Mayhems own pastel range, and will have the same issues.

This is what happens when someone decides to get drunk on Thursday night. :) I even drunk posted that link on another forum before realization set in. DOH again!
 
I've was using Mayhems Pastel yellow for my last 3 rigs, over 18 months, and every time it was with PrimoChill Advanced LRT, and never had issues at all, 2 of those rigs were within about 5 months of each other and the coolant was swapped between them both, and taken out a 3rd time to add GPU blocks to the loop and it was fine.

I had one problem and that was my own fault as I ran out of the A, LRT, and had to use one length of another brand and it botched the whole lot, turning it into crap, literally. At the end of the day it's more down to the tube than the coolant it is a result of the plasticiser leaching. I would just use the advised tubing brands.

They've actually released Aurora 2 now, that is supposed to be more stable, but it is only available in I think 3 colours to start, red, blue, and silver, I'm about to try the silver with the oil black X1, so I'll report back.
 
Wow really EK? Disappoint, previous comment redacted in that case, I'll wait to see what other's think and how it performs at various temperature bands first.
