hi there

im new to gaming on pcs (yes i know im a saddo), but im looking to get into it, and im going to get a pc built with (suggestions welcome) the following specifications:

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.4GHz Quad Core Processor

120GB OCZ Vertex 3 2.5" Solid State Drive

Fractal Design Define R3 ATX Computer Case - Black Pearl

TP-Link TL-WN781ND 150Mbps Wireless Lite N PCI Express Adaptor

1TB Samsung SpinPoint F3 HD103SJ Hard Disk Drive

Pioneer Pioneer 12x BDRW Retail Kit

700W OCZ ModXStream Pro Modular Power Supply

Noctua NH-U12P SE2 Dual Fan Quiet CPU Cooler

8GB G.Skill Ripjaws-X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL

im hoping to get a top end graphics card, as i said im new to this but from what i can tell the amd 7970 is quite a good one right now? if i can im going to get a black edition version of that

im basically going to use the pc for gaming, theres loads of top quality pc games ive evidentally missed out on and im hoping to play them in high/ultra high settings

im just wondering if someone can advise me of a decent mother board (for around /less than £150) that would suit my system and needs, and B ) if anyone could comment on the system to let me know if it could be improved by not spending too much on it, all advice welcome, btw, im looking at getting a new monitor also and i wonder what people think of the Iiyama ProLite E2473HDS 24 inch LED Monitor, for around £150, is that the best monitor available for that price?

thanks a lot in advance, i know ive asked a lot of questions but any advice will be much appreciated for this noob

I would change the psu for a corsair tx750 v2 or the ax750/850.

Cpu cooler, the brand is right, but the nh-d14 is the better one.

Mobo, have a look at Z68 chipset with latest GEN3 applied.Asus and Gigabyte is the better ones.

Otherwise i would say you have done some reading and nearly got it right first time.

As above the AX750 would be better for you.

The XFX 7970 is actually hotter and noisier than the reference cards so tbh I would get one of the ref cards.

Mobo wise take a look at the Gigabyte Z68 - UD3P

thanks guys, im trying to find what u said now

is this the right power supply to start with ? Corsair Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W Power Suply CMPSU-750TXV2UK, ive found a few , and this the right cooler NH-D14 Dual Radiator and Fan Quiet CPU Cooler NH-D14

i have done some reading (a lot on this forum), but like i said im a novice, and a lot of the time the numbers and things are very confusing to a noob, im slowly picking things up, to be honest ive never really used a pc for much more than checking my email since i was a kid (back then i used my amstrad cpc 464 for games, showing my age perhaps lol )

ill have a look at the mother boards , what exactly is z68 and GEN3? *Third generation perhaps?*

With the graphics card, did i not read correctly that the xfx graphics card is currently the best one out in terms of graphics (for the 7970) id be prepaired to wait a few weeks, but i dont know when the other "altered" (dont know the correct term sorry) cards are coming out?

thanks again

edit:

is this the right manufacturer number for the card? GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3, again ive found quite a few and not sure whats the correct one...

You have found all the things correctly

But as TTL said, the Corsair AX750 is a better psu.If you want something like a hd7970,why not get the best you can buy.

Gen3 is pci-e gen3,a new and much faster generation gpu support.

thats the right power supply right?

and is the actual mother board faster? this is the bit im struggling with most, i thought the processor controlled the speed of the computer, but does the motherboard affect it too?

i will definitely buy better components if it will improve the overall pc (providing i can afford them

That is the psu i mentioned first. Its a fine one.

But have a look at Corsair pro series gold AX750.

The GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3 mobo will do fine.

Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Socket 1155 MOtherboard 90-MIBFIA-G0EAY00Z

is that better than this ? GA-Z68X-UD3P-B3

and is the onboard sound on these cards ok or will i need a seperate soundcard (probably going to stick with my 2.1 logitech sound at least for the foresable future, wife is already going to kill me for spending over a grand on the pc given she told me no more than 500
